Had an issue today. Was hitting a couple stores shopping and after the first one, the system just showed the Starlink image. Nothing worked. No hands-free, no radio, buttons did nothing. Pulled over and turned the car off (and opened door to stop the system). Restarted and no change. Drove to the next store with it frozen like below. After the next store where it was off for at least 20 minutes, it worked again. And yes, the temp gauge was correct. Was 101 degrees outside.

Shutting the engine off keeps the accessories working (including the radio) until either:
1. Set amount of time passes (30 seconds?)
2. Open driver’s door

Are you saying that even though everything shuts off, it stays running indefinitely with the screen off?

That's my understanding. The radio will play for quite a while until you open the door and even then the unit doesn't fully shut down right away.

From a firmware TSB:

Step 6- Turn the ignition OFF, open and close the driver’s door then remove the flash drive from the
USB port. If an error screen is displayed asking “Do you want to Retry”, press “Cancel”.
IMPORTANT: Wait AT LEAST 3 MINUTES before proceeding to Step 7.

Well that would explain why it took a longer stop for it to get unstuck.
Yup! There's only anecdotal evidence of this but based on the number of posts here and elsewhere, similar to yours, I'm pretty confident in my hypothesis... 😸

Just hold down the power button for 10+ secs until the Starlink logo flashes on the screen.

1. The useless pause button for the radio makes me madder every time I need it. For such a simple function, you would think Subie could fix that. It worked on both previous Crosstreks, but the new radio is junk functionally.

2. The last production radio I owned with this little power was a 1970's era Plymouth. Anemic volume.....

Let me know what version you get and I'll add it to my HU thread!

So what happens the subscription expires?
Good question! I don't know if maintaining a Starlink subscription is required to get firmware updates. Certainly, you need a maps subscription to get new maps, which are bundled with firmware (if you download from the maps site).

I have a Starlink subscription that ends next year, my the maps site my "maps" subscription ends in August of this year.

Yes, they are different. We renewed our Starlink subscription but won't be renewing the maps as we never use it. I just need to remember to get the latest maps before it expires, LOL!

I will, as I travel areas where there is no cell service, I know you can download offline maps but I have found them not always up to date, accurate or forget to update them.

I installed the December update this last week after getting the email about it Monday. Chose to update it via USB instead of OTA. Haven’t tested if it fixes the problem with reading texts. Before the update when receiving and playing a text (CarPlay), the volume would jump to the level I had it set for reading texts and the radio would keep playing during the reading of those short texts. Have to hit replay on every text to hear them once the radio quit overlapping them. Here’s to hoping it fixed that!

I mostly like the HU in the new XV, and I love Apple Play.
But I cannot stand/detest/hate that you cannot permanently turn off the audio!
As soon as you turn on the car, the radio starts blaring. If the last thing you used was Bluetooth, then that starts blaring. The only way around that is to remember to turn the sound down to zero before you turn off the car.
Also, when you're using Apple Play and you've turned off whatever you've been listening to by touching the screen...as soon as you turn off the car, the radio starts blaring again!
Also, the audio does not stop when you turn off the car...you physically have to open the door for it to stop, or reach over and turn off the button.
This HU is different from the previous models, which used to remember when you turned off the audio...so when you restart the car, the audio was already off. This one, with the audio permanently on, is driving me crazy!
Totally agree. Audio will always come on with the car. Is there NOTHING that can be done?

As a head unit problem, I am cross-posting from my original post in the Lighting, Electrical, and Eyesight forum . . .

This is a 2018 premium with all original electrical parts. Fuse # 29 in the engine compartment, identified as "backup," blew causing failure of numerous components including the door keyless lock/unlock, the head unit, the interior lights, and the multi-function display memory. Replacing the fuse only resulted in it sparking and blowing as the new fuse was inserted with all systems off. I tracked down the problem to something internal to the head unit. After disconnecting the wires to the head unit and replacing the fuse everything else works. The head unit has always seemed poorly executed so I was not surprised to find it was the source of the problem. Now I just need to find and install a descent replacement head unit.
