This thread is all about the Head Unit (HU) on the new MY18 XV Crosstrek..
Do you have a question, a problem or issues with it?...post here.

The HU can be rebooted but you have to hold down the power button for over ten seconds or more. Or turn the car off, open and close the driver's door, and wait five minutes. My 2018 Crosstrek - Base Model - No Navigation - HU quit working. Just a black screen. Does not work when backing up. No sound. Nothing. Checked the fuse and it was good. Tried holding down on the on button. Nothing. It is still under warranty so it is time for a trip to the dealer.
Then it's likely a very old version of the firmware with a lot of known issues. Looks like a trip to the dealer... sorry...I do not know the version of the firmware, but the car was bought in August 2017 and has not been updated. Can't check the version with a blank screen.
But we LOVE complaining about the HU...FYI, Apple just released iOS 12.1.3 that includes a fix for incidents of losing a connection to Apple CarPlay (for newer phones). I know many have posted they were experiencing that, so thought I would pass that along (since it sounds like it isn't a head unit issue but rather an apple issue).
Thanks. I hadn't read the release notes to 12.1.3 to that point. The fixes were for the new X phones and I have an iPhone 7 Plus. However, CarPlay seems to be behaving itself now that I've updated my phone *and* my HU firmware has been updated to Rel_U0.18.43.20.FYI, Apple just released iOS 12.1.3 that includes a fix for incidents of losing a connection to Apple CarPlay (for newer phones). Working better but issues from time to time.Thanks. I hadn't read the release notes to 12.1.3 to that point. The fixes were for the new X phones and I have an iPhone 7 Plus. So time to update the version.MY19. AM/FM Radio Stations won't stay saved. They randomly erase themselves as soon as the next restart to sometimes after several restarts. XM presets don't have this problem and always stay saved.
My 2018 Limited does this too. Also, the AM/FM stations quit one time (XM still worked). Came back later by itself. I have software Rel_UO.18.30.20. It says there are no updates available. Does these updates have to be done by Dealer?MY19. AM/FM Radio Stations won't stay saved. They randomly erase themselves as soon as the next restart to sometimes after several restarts. You have an old version. You need to update either by the dealer or by yourself through the map update site. Don't go by your wifi message. It will always say up to date,... when it is not.[/QUOTE
Thanks for tip on up-dates. Now I am up to Rel_UO.18.43.20 I'll see if that make a difference. Also there is a recall on the Head Unit (Radio) on the Subaru website. I'll see if that is still current when I go in for next service (6K).

Yeah, I got a letter in the mail the other day announcing this for the Harman Kardon unit in my Crosstrek. I've got an appointment to have it installed tomorrow. Also there is a recall on the Head Unit (Radio) on the Subaru website.
