Hell hath no fury...
Reminds me of something I saw awhile back when I was working in NYC. I saw this late model BMW being towed by the city. On the side of the car was written in black spray paint "I really hope she was worth it".

Ha, ha! Did you see it in real life? I've seen similar pics online.

Does this help:

I don't have Starlink, so I don't know.
You don't have Starlink, but Starlink might have you. When the car was new you probably had a "free" teaser subscription (whether you ever used any of the features, or not). Your car might still be "in the system." So who knows...Big Brother might be tracking you!

No, seriously, we don't have Starlink installations in the UK. The telematics unit (or whatever it is called) is disabled (no fuses) and probably not fitted - I'm not dismantling the car to find out. The really odd thing is that the HU displays Starlink logo when it boots up. Logically there would be no point installing it since there would be no point in our cars calling 'home' to the US for help.

Perhaps confusion may be misleading with Subaru Starlink and Starlink. Starlink Multimedia, available for Subaru car owners and created in Japan. Starlink Subaru has no affiliation with Elon Musk's Starlink internet service. it's a confusing name choice. Subaru Starlink doesn't belong to Elon Musk. Subaru Starlink is an automotive safety and infotainment system developed by Subaru. The two systems share the “Starlink” name but are unrelated regarding ownership, functionality, and purpose.

This is certainly part of the situation. Another issue is that Starlink uses the AT&T Mobile network in the U.S. (so, cellular, nothing to do with satellites). Since AT&T doesn't have a network in the UK, that would be another technical challenge to overcome. They would have to partner with another compatible provider and may have decided that there aren't enough potential users to warrant it.

Another issue on the horizon is that our headunits operate on 3G which is being phased out. Sometime in the next year, Starlink will stop working, even in the U.S., for affected models. I don't believe this can be fixed with firmware, it would require a new HU with different cellular hardware.

Before anyone panics, some more info on the 3G thing.

This issue only applied to 2016-18 Subarus, so newer vehicles don't have to worry about it. Subaru started offering a free hardware upgrade for the affected vehicles like 3 years ago, provided the vehicle was enrolled in Starlink. My understanding is that the 3G networks were shut down last year, so the whole thing is pretty much moot at this point.

I was wondering about Subaru's Starlink being Elon Musk's Starlink and did some research to find them as two different entities. EL's Starlink subscriptions; USD$90-$5000/month. Not Subaru's Starlink.

Previous versions of Subaru's Starlink using 3G can be updated when keeping the subscription according to; What Is The Subaru Starlink App And Why Is It Going Away?.

Thanks, I wasn't aware it had already gone away.

@Nutjob1 I have edited my earlier post to make it clearer for you. Can't imagine why you would think I was confusing anything with any product from Musk (formerly known as Twitter):sleep:
As Montanan stated, 3G was Subaru's Starlink that went away but an update to 4G was available to Starlink subscribers keeping up their subscriptions. My guess is this applies to UK Subaru's with Starlink. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Right, according to at least one dealership website, 3G was "retired" in Feb. 2022, and a free update was available to owners with an active Starlink subscription.
