I'm not a picky sleeper. I have slept in my car with just a sleeping bag over me. My only concern is moisture control/bug control. I crack the window a bit when I sleep in my car but during certain season that is just invitation to the mosquito. Really want to get a mosquito netting for inside of the car but I really only sleep in my car in emergency.
I will say... there was some moisture on the windows in the morning, but it was not bad. What I think helped was we bought "HeatShield" window reflectors for all our windows which acts as insulation. I also kept a medium size battery fan blowing all night. Either way, the first thing I did when we woke up was wipe any moisture off of the inside of the windows with a towel.

As far as the bugs... We had the original Subaru side window visors put on, so we could crack the windows and not worry about rain, but I think this kept some bugs out too. We tried to make our own mosquito net out of some materials we bought from Walmart, but it didn't turn out very well. I was thinking of buy a pair from this site. They have amazing reviews! And keeps out tiny gnats too! https://theskeeterbeater.com

Im reading this with interest since I'e camped several times with my crosstrek using a tent, but I want a way to sleep in the car, or find a cheaper alternative instead of a pricy, lightweight camper or a rooftop tent. The rooftop tents look cool, but in my opinion a 50lb tent setup + sleeping gear + my 230lb self and my 150lb girlfriend, is just too much weight on that roof. There are some cool inflatible mattresses designed for the inside of a car (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C7U59V0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_n8g0zbBQH51WG), but they are also kind of expensive for something that won't , last more than a couple years.

There is also this cool tent (Rightline Gear 110907 SUV Tent https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NGJEN5K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_taa_4-g0zb9WHSYJJ), but you still end up sleeping in the car, so why not just go with a regular tent you dont have to park level against?

What are you folks using for trailers? Any cool alternatives out there. I like this platform idea and sleeping in the car, I'm ust curious about what other creative folks are doing.
