Just goes to show, no seat fits everyone.

So, after all this, my wife & I are getting ready for a 14 day trip from SoCal through Zion, Bryce, Moab, etc. on and off road in her Crosstrek. I'll be fine, but she experiences quite a bit of pain if she rides too long - the passenger seat is not adjustable. Does anyone make spacers (or anything) which would allow me to raise her seating position (she already uses a purple pad for additional cushioning).

Thx.

I removed the plastic back support from the seat. 100% recommend and transformed the comfort level of my seat.

I found the stock lumbar support too weak so I added a thin layer of padding in front of that white plastic back support. Now the seat back is very comfortable.

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I wish the seat has more thigh support. A bit more width would be great too.

Also, I prefer cloth over the leather in my Limited.

As others have said, no seat is perfect for everyone.

I think I will regret the black leather because I live in the desert and summer gets 100 degrees.

Yeah, we love our leather seats, though and it can get well over 100F in the Valley in the summer here. Maybe get a couple of big beach towels to drape over the seats on those really hot days when you're going to park in the sun.

I love my 2018 Crosstrek with the exception of the seats. Im wondering if there are others who experience this also. My right leg actually hurts after driving any distance. I just cant seem to get comfortable. Im normal height and weight, so I really cant pinpoint the issue other than when I get out of the drivers seat my leg feels stiff and painful. It only happens when Im in the car so its not an injury etc.
Im honestly considering trading my car because I can't envision myself driving it for the next several years. I have found myself recently dreading having to drive anywhere.
Any similar experiences?
We agree with you our XV Subaru with leather seats is terribly uncomfortable
When we bought the car we didn’t notice the seats but after driving distances of over about 50kms our legs are killing us. I can hardly walk after a long journey. I thought I must have the wrong setting so lowered the seat and lengthened the distance between brake and seat. But to no avail. The muscles down the backs of our legs are killing us. Even repeated massages do little to stop the pulling feeling one experiences in the back of the legs. Initially I thought the problem was just ours so was amazed to see other complaints from Subaru drivers. I’ve never known a car seat like this. We find we need to stop and stretch every 100kms.
This is a terrible experience.

Yes!!! I am in extreme pain when driving my 2018 Crosstrek XL for more than 1 hour. The gas pedal is BEHIND the center console so that you have to twist your leg about 45 degrees to get to the gas pedal. Holding your leg in this position for long periods of times results in sharp pain in the leg and butt. I have retrofitted the gas pedal but it does not help. This has become a very big problem for me since I routinely have to drive 2 hour trips. The 2022 models have the same problem; the Forester and Outback require a smaller angle but I can not afford to trust it will be ok.

I have a '16 Crosstrek but when I was trying out used cars, I tried an '18 and rejected it. For me the seat was kind of narrow feeling compared to the '16, and the seat belt latch intruded heavily on my thigh (which is pretty average in size). The '18 also had all the bells and whistles, and I didn't like having all those things to have to attend to, or to get in the way. Beyond that, cars these days are so full of EMF emitting doodads, I like to keep them at the greatest minimum possible. Even that, in some sensitive people, could give them extra aches and pains. Yes, it's true. From the whirrrr of steel-belted radial tires, too.

I guess that I will weigh in to to add the household complaint regarding seat comfort. For a 25 minute run into town it is fine. On returning from Costco, a 2 hour drive, we promptly grab for the acetaminophen.

Surprising! Maybe the Limited has better support? We've been on trips of several hours and no issues.

Really surprised at some of these posts. Extreme pain? We've done some long road trips and only stopped for coffee/pee breaks.

It adds up. If the seat, which is fairly firm, does not fit you, then the pressure points which as not notable for short trips, and a minor annoyance after a while, become a pain with prolonged use.

First trip I took with my Crosstrek, car started with about 600 miles, and I added 2500 miles to it over a week. Last day before I got home I hurt. Now the next year when I took a trip I didn't. Maybe used to the seat, maybe seat broken in a bit. But if the seat don't work for you, then very long trips in one position can cause pain.

Was going to make a dedicated post but I'll just add to this thread. Found this randomly and didn't find any posts about it anywhere on this forum. Just installed and what a difference an inch makes for the leg support. Life changing for me for sure. Plus I was able suck up all the food crap the previous slob owner had left for me that I couldn't get with the vacuum prior.

Based on your post and my unsuccessful attempts to get comfortable in the seat, I purchased these blocks. Amazing! The seat tilts up now to support my legs and the seat back is now at a comfortable slant. I'm 6' and don't like sitting high with my head near the roof. The blocks did not affect the height but put the seat in a more relaxing position. I no longer feel like I'm sitting on my tailbone. Even my wife says my seating position looks more natural. Thank you for this recommendation. I did figure out that, contrary to the installation instructions, on my 2018 6MT, I did not have to remove the plastic cover on the rear of the inside seat rail as the bolt is not covered as it is by the cover on the outside rail. But, if like me, you do remove it, reinstall it before tightening the bolt. The slight tilt in the repositioned seat makes it impossible to reinstall otherwise. Also, I used channel locks to hold the block in position as I torqued it to prevent it from turning with the bolt. For me, it was money well spent.
