I just got my first Eyesighterror code on my Premium. It said, “Eyesight not available; check the manual.” I cleaned my window, and still there. However, this morning the error was gone for like 15 minutes and came back. I will bring it to the dealership and have it checked this weekend.

I just came back from the dealer’s service. The technician said the Eyesight was out of calibration. He needs to adjust it. It is good now.

Maybe my car is the first 2024 that has this problem. :):):)

No, you are not alone in this! I have 1200 miles on my leased crosstek and the "eyesight disabled" light came on this morning. Talked to the dealer and we are scheduling an appointment for it.

picked up my 2024 Crosstrek 2 weeks ago and I have the same problem. seems only when the sun is shinning on the windshield. starts normally in the garage. my 2017 didn't like the setting sun or highbeams in it's face. would shut off, but it did come back on after 5 minutes or so. this one it stays off. 100 miles from the dealer so it's gonna have to wait to get fixed. maybe by that time it'll be a recall. pain in the neck because I can't use the cruise and the whole accident avoidance system is off. not a good start for my 3 Subie.

As a follow-up to post#7, my observations of Eyesight up close and personal. I examined the three cameras in my Sport. The camera cover sides, right/left/upper appear sealed to the windshield while the bottoms are not, allowing me to pry the rubber cover with a finger to flex it. The flexible, unsealed bottoms may allow moisture to migrate into each camera area to fog up one or more lenses. This obscuration of camera(s) may result in temporarily disabling Eyesight until fog dissipates.

I am actually pretty impressed with the eyesight system in my car. I was driving the other night in such heavy rain that I could barely see, and the system remained on. it was even keeping in the center of the lane pretty well.

At 800 miles my first “eyesight disabled” message appeared. I waited a few days and watched as it went in and out of service intermittently for no apparent reason. I got it serviced/calibrated and the dealership said it should not be an issue again. A month later with less than 2000 miles the same problem happened again. I honestly do not like the eyesight system or the fact that it is acting up. I bought a new car to not have the car in and out of the shop. Two trips to the dealer by September for a car purchased in late July does not inspire confidence in my purchase. The fact that the eyesight working properly can have serious implications does warrant possible enactment of the lemon law here in California.

They replaced my original eyesight camera. It has been working properly since the vehicle was returned to me.

Although, my confidence in the technology is not super high. Especially when I recently had to switch lanes because someone cut me off and unexpectedly hit the brakes. It actually makes it dangerous for eyesight to brake you when you’re making an evasive maneuver to avoid a collision which happens in real life. The odds of you cutting off someone else when the car unexpectedly brakes mid lane-change is much higher. Which is what happened to me.

I don’t like that the technology is standard. I wish I could get a model without eyesight. Just a regular person driven car. None of this algorithm endangering me. Too much is computerized in cars. The latest recall is a prime example. If that wire shorts the car turns off while driving? Catastrophic failure because of 1 wire. And they’re like if it’s damaged we’ll wrap some tape over it 😂

My uncle used to have a 1948 mercury. pretty sure that had instruments on the dash which required wiring behind them.

My daily driver 1967 Chevelle started turning off while driving. It was a bad connection inside the ignition switch. I replaced the switch and rebuilt the old one to working order. I think every car has a single-point failure mode that will shut the car down if one wire breaks or shorts.

I have also been having an eyesight unavailable issue since the weather has started getting cold and I think its caused by condensation as well, as I decided to pull over last time it came on and much to my surprise there was ice perfectly formed to where the cameras are but on the outside of the windshield. Some defrost and windshield wash and eyesight came back to life. Hopefully this helps someone.

I received the error yesterday on my way home. 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness with 7900 miles. It was on during my morning commute, however the error went away and everything worked fine for my afternoon/evening commute. Yesterday I did schedule an appointment with the service department (next Tuesday is earliest) incase it sticks around/comes back.

Eyesight will disable itself but not interfere with driving. No different from abs disabling itself if an abs sensor, sensor wiring, damaged reluctor or the abs electronics fail; you will always have braking, locking up a wheel or two in panic stops. ABS is an enhancement to power assisted brakes. Eyesight may be considered an enhancement to driving safety, but will not prevent a driver from using common sense driving techniques along with experience to drive safely.

Eyesight may have disabled itself for a number of reasons; temporary fogging of camera(s), electronic interference, weather obscuring cameras and electronics discerning danger from normal driving, heavy fog, loss of headlights, heavy rain blocking cameras and driver's view thru the front windshield, etc. Try asking your dealer for an explanation and see what they come up with. As it is, eyesight along with Starlink, if subscribed, collect data and upload it for Subaru data mining for several reasons. Among them; collecting real time data for correlating and tweaking software to improve car electronics, providing data to insurance companies to help with their actuarial tables in determining insurance rates, and more. Here's a recent post; https://www.subaruxvforum.com/threads/high-technology-reports-to-insurance-co-driving-habits.188227/

My new Xtrek Sport Eyesight took a brief vacation last year for a few blocks. After reading posts, I determined morning humidity in summer heat temporarily fogged the lenses until I turned on defrost on medium speed to move air until Eyesight returned. Two occurrences from my guess, related to interior humidity, quickly returning after some air circulation. This past Sunday, returning home from snow squalls in upstate NY disabled Eyesight; possibly from whiteout conditions, view obscured from snow covering highway lane markers and right side solid line. Eyesight returned when the snow squall subsided. Slowing down didn't allow Eyesight return but safer driving prevailed in whiteout conditions.

Others may have experiences to contribute how Eyesight goes away and returns.

Dropped my car off at the dealer yesterday, for Eyesight problems. This is the second time to the dealer for the same issue. It was randomly turning off and on for the last several weeks, so took it in. Windshield is clean and no fogging issues either. Cruise control won't work with Eyesight disabled. First time the dealer recalibrated the camera(s). Waiting to hear back from dealer, hopefully today.

Just following up for those who are interested...

Picked my car up after Subaru had it for 4 days. They indicated no error codes and the eye sight was working as it should. He told me if eye sight goes out, it "should" leave an error code. Drove off a bit let down, but oh well, car still drove fine lol. Coming home from work yesterday, eye sight disabled again, just before I was going to exit for Gas/Costco. Dealer is right around the corner, soooo.... I took it over. They hooked up the reader and got the code they needed. "E5" if I remember correctly, which indicates camera failure. They ordered new camera(s) and will call when they arrive.

I find it odd no error codes were stored in the system, even though the eye sight randomly disabled several times, before I had enough and took it in. I'm happy they stepped up and took care of me with no appointment and didn't make me wait.

Have had our newest Outback since October, this is our 3rd Outback. This is the 2nd time eyesight has disabled on this vehicle. This time happened on a weekend away, yes there was rain, fog and sissy sprinkles, but our old Outback had zero issues like this! Having to take it into the dealership as it has not resolved yet. and btw the error says check the manual, BUT eyesight does not appear in index! And we cannot find any info on it in the manual…bah ha ha
