A few months ago, I ran the tank so low that the low fuel indicator went from yellow to red and had NO bars on the fuel gauge left. I ended up filling up about 56L.
Thanks for the info. We never run our vehicle with lower than 2 bars. Did not know the gas light turn red. Only saw yellow before.

With our crosstrek I fill it until the pump clicks off...then put in another 10 litres. I know...I’ve been told that is not a good thing to do...but I do it anyway. The gas pump where I go to get gas allows me to trickle in the gas so I can do this.

To add to those who have warned of possible damage to the car from running empty I have heard that the fuel injectors can also be damaged by running dry in a hot engine. I haven't researched this and put it forward as just something I've heard.

@Scoobydoo2, that is a LOT of fuel after the first click.....

I'm not saying shenanigans, but.... ~2.5 +/- gallons is a lot to shove in there..... 🧐

It’s the honest to god truth sir. I go to the same gas station every fill...small town...and after it clicks off I trickle in the rest. It’s an older gas pump so I think the parts being worn helps that. I put in 10 litres. That way if I check my mileage I can be fairly sure of the same amount each time....plus it allows me to get 800+ km per tank on the highway.

Yep, the '18 has a 16.6 gallon tank...
Which is 13.8 imperial gallons. When I fill our car I go to the same station and pump...when possible. After it clicks off I then squeeze in another 10 litres...2.1 imperial gallons, 2.5 US gallons. I believe the tank capacity is a FULL tank, not just when the pumps clicks off while filling.
