I took my 2017 Crosstrek up a trail for the first time and had three oopsies. Two were just the bumper getting knocked a bit too hard but it still goes back on which is fine. The other was when I turned a bit too much and then hit a bump and ripped my fender liner or wheel well liner out from the front right/ front passenger wheel well. I plan on trying to bandaid it and have it be ok until I do some upgrades later on but I was just curious on how important it is to have it and if there’s a way to get something that at least just blocks the inner bumper area off and helps hold the bumper and skid plate verses fixing or replacing the entire liner.

The liners main job is to stop rocks from chipping the wheel well paint causing rust to start. It’s not necessary for anything else really.
i ripped out the front wheel well liner on my 2016 in deep snow. my wiper reservoir was dangling. i think the part and pins cost me a little over $100
Liners help protect against rocks. but, then get to be a problem for off road and aftermarket tires, bumpers and suspension. most often they get trimmed at the corners for clearance.
