Thanks for sharing that info, I knew Fram had some good filters, Didn't think it would be that good!(LOL) . Another thing to consider is bypass valve pressure rating . When researching filters I noticed the bypass pressures were all over the place, but yet said it will work for our Crosstreks??,If its too low a lot of your oil isn't being filtered anyhow, and it won't matter how efficient the filter is.! Also if you only keep your ride to lets say, 100,000 miles you can run anything and get that. I have 7 more miles to go and will post a pick of my mileage of my daily driver that has run only wix filters and 10w-30 Valvoline Dino oil with 3000 mile oil changes.
Low bypass is not an issue. My old '08 Forster last time I checked had 270K miles on nonsubaru filters with low bypass values. And another thing....would Fram risk a lawsuit by specifying them on 10's of millions of Subarus???

In my area, using non Subaru oil filters does not really have incentive, especially when I saw the filter with reduced height. So for me, just keep changing filter every 10K kms with Subaru oil filter for peace of mind, even though most of the time I change the oil every 5k since I regulary dumps PEA-based cleaner. So far the engine seems quiet, powerful, no knocking.

Can't really go wrong with Mobil 1 - they are proven and ubiquitous. The recommended size is the M1-108, which is shorter. The M1-110 is the same height as the OEM Subaru filter.

Have the oil tested. The lab will tell you if there's something seriously wrong or if the oil could go a few more thousand miles. Changing oil too frequently costs money and adds to pollution in the environment due to production and disposal. I used Blackstone and the report was that the oil was fine but had some fuel in it due to short trips during the pandemic.

Oil change shops like Jiffy Lube are not trying to save your engine, they are trying to make a profit...

Where's my resident "Subaru engineers know best" everybody should use OEM post?
Where's mine, LOL?

I just think that anyone posting about potential oil problems should get an oil analysis and post the results before they pontificate...

"Subaru engineers know best", especially those with steam locomotive experience. Japanese Subaru OEM "Black" filters are best because, well, they are used by folks who put "D-rings" on their car to show they have track time. Blue Subaru OEM filters are the best too because they are better/cheaper/more fun than any others but the filter case color clashes with my orange car. Fram filters are crap or really good depending on how they work and are made from used cardboard or titanium and unobtainium alloys. Wix filters have short names but have many cute pleats in their media and are black like the black OEM Subaru filters so there's that. Mobil 1 filters will have to do until the Mobile 2 filters (with the hyper-synthetic miracle oil cleanser "plearn") are available to normal people. Others have found that different filters are best at keeping their oil looking sharp and well groomed while smelling fresh as spring and they are correct as well.

I believe an adapter can be 3D printed that allow you to use up to six filters at one time which, as we know, is better than five filters as long as they are the best filters and not crap filters although it makes your Crosstrek hood look like it has acne. Some just don't use filters at all but hose clamps as a tourniquet because they don't make a filter good enough.

I use filters but I forget which kind. They are smooth on the outside and get all full of dirt and oil after use. That seems to work for me so far. Whew, I'm glad I got that off my oil pan. I'll go now.

Please repost this on every oil filter thread from now on.

I use the OE filter…I’m not going to overthink this.

SP supersedes SN+
Would you happen to know of a list of SP certified oils? I didn't even know a newer one came out. Good deal.

I've only found these two in the quick search I did, and the Mobil one is not available in the states it appears.

EDOT.

Also looks like a few of these are API SP.

I have been ordering my oil and oil filters from Amazon because the local stores do not have what I need.

Also, I went to my preferred motor oil manufactures/brand website and checked the listed specifications.

https://www.api.org/products-and-se...-services/engine-oil/eolcs-categories-and-classifications/latest-oil-categories

Hope this helps!
