I was wondering what makes the Crosstrek so heavy? The body has a lot of plastic. Is the interior particularly heavy? Drive train? The fb20 is not a fast engine by any means but is it a heavy engine? Generally just curious why this car weighs so much considering it's size.

The generic response google offers in your screenshot is just the base vehicle weight average regardless of trim and option variations. Adding higher end trim components increases weight by another hundred or two hundred pounds. Going with the bare bones MT base saves almost 100.
The CVT and Manual have almost identical housing weights, but the internals of the MT are much more simple and less mass, leading to less weight.
