Hey all,

Am car shopping and trying to weigh the pros and cons of a few options, would really appreciate some additional opinions on 3 options, all from the same dealer

Used 2024 Premium
  • Option Package 14
  • 1 prior owner w/ 3,154 miles
  • MSRP $31,138
  • Dealer's Listed price $27,911

Used 2025 Limited
  • Option Package 32
  • 1 prior owner w/ 4,160 miles
  • MSRP $35,760
  • Dealer's Price $30,611

New 2025 Premium
  • Option Package 14
  • MSRP $32,383
  • Dealer's Listed price $30,471

At this point I would probably not go for the New 2025 Premium, would prefer the Used 2025 Limited -- my question is whether the jump from the 2.0L to 2.5L and the seats/sound upgrades are worth that $2.5k jump. I know it varies from person to person, just want to hear some opinions.

I like the wilderness for the most part but that door clading is just overboard and that seat material cooks me. If I was to go wilderness model it would be a Forester for looks but once again that seat material is a deal breaker for me. By the way I speak from experience as I had a FW and had to trade it before a second summer came around.

My first question is did you test drive these vehicles? Both used models are very low mileage so almost new. If you haven't test driven the cars, do so and then you can decide whether the extra punch of the 2.5L engine is worth the extra money compared to the 2.0L. Punch the accellerator up some hills and on some on-ramps on an Interstate if you can.

Only you can decide if the other features on the Limited like leather and a moon roof are worth it compared to the Premium.

I went from a 2018 Premium MT to a new 2024 Limited 18 months ago. I’m very happy with my choice. My only upgrade was adding the complete Primitive Racing skid plate package when I learned how little protection is offered by the stock plastic shields. I have had no issues with it and it gets as good gas mileage as the 2.0 with a little more oomph. I also added a tow hitch which hasn’t been used since installation as I have another vehicle for towing.

I have a 2024 Limited with a little less than 5000 miles on it, with Navigation, Moon roof and HK sound system. Navigation is TomTom and is meh. Moon roof helps to keep things cool for the dog when he's left in the car (briefly!!). And the HK sound system it a worthy upgrade. Overall, I love the car. And if you can get it at that price, I say go for it. You are saving approx. $5,000- which is the hit anyone takes the moment they drive a new car off the lot. So someone else took that hit. If I had that used option when I bought mine new, I would have gone for it! And if you're still uncertain, think about this... You can take the $5000 savings, put it in a 4% savings account, and in 2 or 2 1/2 years when the warranty runs out, you have about $5400 for a repair fund! Or, if you want (and I like the idea less) you can purchase a Subaru extended warranty. Finally, I believe the 2.5 over the 2.0 is a no brainer. In short, I think the 2025 Limited is a great deal!
