Hey Folks,

I'm looking at purchasing a 2015 Subaru Crosstrek in the very near future and I was hoping you could chyme in about common issues that you had with your 2015 model.

My coworker has a 2013 Crosstrek Sport and he had to deal with a fair share of (what I consider) unnecessary repairs, his vehicle has ~55,000 miles (mostly highway) and he had issues with his engine (luckily covered by the recall), had to replace his front axle and rear wheel bearing at around 50,000 miles. The latter repairs cost him nearly $800 CAD. I'm no mechanic but to me it seems a bit too soon to have those kind of issues. We had a 97 CRV and it went to 180,000 miles without any issues.

According to Consumer Reports and CarComplaints it seems that the 2015 model has the fewest amount of issues so I was hoping to get the opinions of real owners about this.

If you own a 2015 Crosstrek, what kind of issues have you had to deal with? And do you think it's worth getting the 2014 model (apparently still has issues with the axles and bearings) for a little cheaper/fewer miles.

Thank you!

I just bought a 2015 crosstrek a couple of weeks ago. I really love the car. A week after I bought it my mom bought an '18 haha. I will say there is a huge difference in the refinement between gen 1 and gen 2. The only thing I have noticed with mine is that when I am driving on a rough road and a high speed, the person on the other end of the phone call always says there is terrible background noise. I am going to mention to subaru when i get my oil changed, maybe they will replace the mic.

Other than that, I truly love the car and am getting 33mpg combined so im pretty stoked about that.

Also, if anyone has an input on the bluetooth situation, ill be happy to listen!

Gah, I would love to get the newer generation but it's a bit out of my price range =(

In regards to the stereo, one of the first things I'll be doing when I get this car is upgrade the headunit to a Sony. We had it in our previous car and it's amazing. It takes mediocre sound system and turns it to a great one. Another great perk is that you don't need to buy an adapter to retain the steering wheel buttons.

Unfortunately, manual is out of the question for me because we live in a fairly busy city and we'll do a fair bit of city driving and that will just get annoying. For the CVT, I'm not too concerned as the car will likely be covered by Subaru's extended warranty and I plan to keep the car for another 2-3 years (before upgrading to a larger vehicle when we start a family).

I've got a 2015...had it since new. Currently 130k miles on it.
Other than tires and brakes.....just a rear wheel bearing. That's it! Car has been rock solid. No electronic or mechanical issues.
Pretty much acts and sounds like it did when it had 6 miles on the odometer.
Have performed the maintenance as prescribed in the owners manual.

Best of luck to you.

I have a 2015 Limited CVT. Unfortunately, I also had one rear wheel bearing (59,000 miles) and both front CV axles (69,000) replaced. I also had a transmission pan leak at 30,000 and transmission park sensor that caused the key to stick in the ignition when parked (62,000). The brake light switch was also replaced per the recall. The car currently has 77,000 miles.

Hey wheatgerm, thanks for the reply. Out of curiosity, what are your driving habits like? Are you pretty pedal heavy or do you take your Crosstrek offroad? And were any of those repairs (except the brake light) covered by Subaru?

If not, that's too bad that Subaru still hasn't figured out the CV & wheel bearing issues.

2015 crosstrek, bought new.79811 miles, have refilled ac juice, replaced both rear bearings, both front CV joints and front brakes, tranny screams going up hills after driving for an hour and now my blower motor is acting up. I love my car, will not buy another subaru. I am gentle on my vehicles and the maintenance on this car is ridiculous. I am a "light" breaker, have never been off road or abused her.
She holds the road fantastic, though!

We just sold one out our two Crosstrek's. We had a 17 and an 18. Both have far more issues than we are used to having. Previously we owned 2 different Toyota Matrix AWDs that just never needed anything other than oil, tires and brakes. Both went to 180k plus. We traded in the 17 after it had a rear wheel bearing go out and then the defective shift plate issue, all within 40k miles. Both would have been non-warranty but a lot of chats with SOA and they covered everything but bogus diagnostic charges. We ended up hating both of our closest Subaru dealers. The 18 goes in for a new TPM sensor under warranty tomorrow. We shall see how things go when it is beyond warranty in a couple of months.

I have a 2016. No issues at all. Just oil changes and tire rotations. I do have just 30000 miles on it though

This is what I found in my research (I am looking at a 15 XV Crosstrek Special Edition): Most dependable yr. for the 1st gen., rated above average by both owners and mechanics for reliability, 2.0L w/CVT is solid but not sporty, minimal issues when properly maintained. Common repairs: rear wheel bearings 60 - 90k miles, Front CV axle replacement 70 -100k miles, AC condenser 80-100k miles. The brake light switch affects the eyesight system, gear shift lock, and the key to get stuck in the ignition, but has a recall to fix that issue. Transmission has occasional hesitation and whining under a load, but rarely fails.
