CVT transaxle uses 2 different fluids. CVT fluid for the transmission AND differential fluid for the front differential. Front differential fluid is the same as the rear.

Bearing that in mind, you have 2 different drain plugs AND 2 different fill plugs for the Transmission/transaxle. And another for the front differential which you open when filling until fluid flows out. In other words lets you know when it's filled and not Overfilled.

Thanks for such a quick reply. What I understand from your reply is that maintenance items 13(CVT Fluid except BRZ & Hybrid) and 14(front and rear differential gear oil except BRZ) do apply to my '21 Crosstrek Limited, and that maintenance item 12(transmission gear oil) does not apply to a '21 Crosstrek Limited. Is that correct?

I think you mean Maintenance Booklet, not Service Manual?

Item 12 says “CVT fluid (except BRZ & Hybrid.)

Possibly the wording in the 2021 booklet is different, but I believe the procedures would be the same.

You're correct, I'm referring to the thin booklet that tells you when and what to service your vehicle, my mistake.

Of note, the 2023 PDF that you linked does not match the 2021 booklet that was provided with my '21 Crosstrek Limited. The difference is that item 5 Timing Belt(WRX STI) is no longer present in the 2023 booklet, I assume this is because Subaru has discontinued the WRX as of 2022.
