What crossbars are you using? I have OEM crossbars and any accessory mounted to them won't interfere with the sunroof tilt/open

 

I will likely be using the factory aero bars.

 

it won't interfere with the tilt/open, you will just see the basket when you look up

 

This is what I want to avoid.

 

if you use the factory bars, there isnt a way to mount them further back. They are 2 different length bars since the rails are at an angle, requiring a set location for installing them.
I am not sure how other aftermarket bars are, such as thules.

 

That's good to know, I'm going to have to shop around a little and see if I can find some that will mount further back, like the Thule or Yakima maybe.

 

yakima round bars wouldn't give you an issue. they come in all different lengths, so you can have much more control over where you mount them on your rails

 

You might also consider what another forum member (addictedtopowerwheels) bought instead of the roof rack. Scroll down the thread and you will see some pics of it mounted and how it swings out for hatch access. The big plus IMO is you do not have a wind drag.

Not really liking the look of the hitch mounted boxes, also adds too much weight too far behind the rear wheels. I'd be worried about adverse handling.

Any other ideas folks? I thought about buying a basket that is 2 pieces( the extendable kind) and shortening it in the middle to get it to the size that I want, just not sure how it will look.
