Same source I used for the Tokyo Roki filters. Indeed, they are the real deal, not knock-offs.
Speaking of knock-offs, avoid ordering from this ebay seller: Genuine 6X Engine Oil Filter For Subaru 15208AA160 Impreza Legacy Outback 2.4L | eBay
Although the photos may lead a buyer to believe that they are selling genuine Roki filters, they ship knock-offs that don't look like the genuine Roki filters even though they are labeled as such.

edit: The jury is still out but there is some speculation that the filters they are shipping are old stock. See post #52 below. Nevertheless, they are shipping filters that differ from the five photos on their ebay lisiting.

It's nowhere near 25 years. Subaru switched to the 15208AA160 (factory)/15208AA15A (dealer) oil filters when the 4 cylinder engines transitioned from the EJ to FB engines around model year 2011. (Crosstreks have always had FB engines). The EJ's used the shorter 15208AA100 (factory)/15208AA12A(dealer) engine oil filters.
The only difference is the length. The newer one is longer. I used the Fram longer filter (7317) instead of their 6607 in my 2008. The EJ has been around since '89

How could you tell they were knock offs? Did they look like the ones in the photos. You are making me seconds guess my ebay filters now.

So for a 2021 Crosstrek 2.5L this is the incorrect filtre. I bought a few and now they are garbage, imagine.

Genuine Subaru 15208AA15A Oil Filter
You can still use these filters, they just don't make them anymore so they have been superseded with a new filter / part number is all. Doesn't mean you have to throw them away, they will still work just fine.

The filter/packaging received differ in many respects from the five photos in their ebay listing. Below are three sets of photos. The filter/packaging on the right is known to be a genuine a Roki filter and is what is pictured in the ebay listing. However, the filter/packaging on the left is what I received. Besides the obvious differences (silver cannister crimp ring, red backflow valve) the questionable filter also has a different bypass valve and center tube.

There is some speculation that the questionable filters are old stock and not knock-offs. Does anyone recall if genuine Roki filters ever looked like the filter on the left? It probably would have been pre-2017 when Fuji Heavy Industries still was the company name.

According to some............if the label on the box is just a label and not printed on the box it could be a candidate for counterfeit. If the glue on the box top flaps is a bunch of small dots vs a continuous bead when you open the box then it should be genuine. If it is missing the plastic to keep debris out it is probably fake as well. @SubaruBill makes a good point. I bought my TR filter off of Amazon for my 3.6. It passes the "tests". I have 5 of the old blue filters for the Wife's Crosstrek so I'm set for a while.

I get my filters from my local parts store, Gives me piece of mind that im not getting a knock off. eBay, and even Amazon are not to be trusted ! If you ever tried to purchase bearings from either eBay or Amazon almost all of them are counterfeit! Just sayin.

@Quickster2 . The printing on the box top is printed directly to the cardboard, no label. However, there are no glue dots - just a blob of glue. In addition, the cellophane that covers the open end of the filter does not have a small hole in the center.

Interesting for sure. You might have a NOS filter there. If it has an UPC code you might be able to search that way.

After bringing these discrepancies to the ebay seller's attention, he/she has sent me a pre-paid shipping label to return the questionable filters for a full refund.

Would be nice if someone ordered the Tokyo Roki filters and after finding if they are legit, make a new thread for "Genuine Tokyo Roki Filters " so people can order without trial and error.

Maybe the vendor would be interested in sponsorship on the site.

Kind of what Subaroutback.org has with their sponsors and threads with products, tips, answer questions etc.

Most interesting. An "at-our-own-cost" admission of fookery, in my book.

Well, I've been busy as hell and didn't get my order in for the Toko Roki filters.

Had the dealer do another oil change and they finally used the correct "815" filter.

I need to get my order in for the filters.....

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day !
