So this looks real easy on every YouTube video however they are all home videos. Is there something more I'm supposed to know about programming the home link with an apartment building parkade

People who have trouble usually have or develop a habit of making the same error. The variable change most likely to make a difference is the person. Get somebody else to try it with you. What often works is to have somebody else read the steps while you perform them. Going back and forth between reading and performing can introduce timing errors.

Depending on your garage opener brand, these steps may vary. Mine is a Genie garage door opener.
I am also assuming you also have the OEM homelink mirror which has 3 homelink buttons.

1- Hold the outer 2 homelink buttons until the light flashes continuously. Once it flashes you can let go of both buttons.
2- Hold the desired homelink button you want to set AT THE SAME TIME as holding the button on your clicker (1-3 inches away from mirror) that opens the garage door, do this until it rapidly flashes continuously.

So now you have set the homelink button to your clicker. At this time depending on your garage door opener, you may already be set. To tell if you are, do the following:
Press and hold the newly programmed HomeLink button,
If the indicator light is solid (not flashing) your garage door should now activate and you are complete. There is no need to continue with these instructions.
If the indicator light flashes for 2 seconds before turning solid (not flashing) your garage door opener is not ready and continue to #3

3- Now you have to set your garage door opener onto a learn mode, typically there is a button on the back or underside that says learn or smart

4- Fully press and release the 'learn' key, there was a red led on mine that started flashing, this activates learn mode

5- Tricky part here is that after it is in learn mode, you have to go back to your car and press/hold the homelink button you synced for 2 seconds multiple times. I had to press my homelink button 5 times before it synced with the garage door opener.

Hope this breaks it down a little more and you successfully get your homelink to work!

I watched the video and I read the instructions in the owner's manual, but I cannot make it work. I have an older Genie opener that operates at 390 Mhz with 9 dip switches.
At the end-point where the indicator is supposed to start flashing rapidly, instead the indicator stops flashing slowly and just lights up solid without flashing. From video I noticed that you are supposed to push the start run button without starting the car to begin the process, which I did, but it still refuses to learn the code. This is very frustrating.

This may sound silly but which video are you watching? YouTube has an official Subaru video about setting the garage door opener. After reading the manual, I watched and followed the video. Worked for me on the first try.

If it doesn't work, it may be your garage door opener. How old is "older" for your Genie?
