A “CF” - poor execution by SoA. Similar to the OTA capabilities, that don’t really exist. ... Can not same the same for my Telsa OTA updates - get one every two weeks or so...

I had one OTA just before I replaced the Harman. Non-nav but it worked fine.

I can't agree that it was poor implimentation by SoA. We don't know the administrative process

Contracting out to a company that does that sort of thing, opposed to a car company creating a connected services division, makes sense.

I know TomTom doesn't update their map very often becasue I have an old stand alone, with lifetime map updates, kicing around for emergencies. I think it's about twice a year. I would assume whoever has the TomTom licence would be provided the latest under their service agreement.

Who knows how often Tesla's service providers, now Baidu, update their maps or have a need to refine their package whereas TomTom's might work fine the way it is.

A more likely reason for the frequest Tesla updates is that their navigation engine is designed by Tesla. This means it must integrate with the map provider's product and their own infotainment unit (currently produced by Harman). I suspect the frequent navigation updates are actually Tesla's bug fixes and other tweaks, not the service provider, while Subaru's Harman product incorporate TomTom's native navigation engine.

@Doca - I say "poor execution" from only my personal experience; no need to be agreeable! Had a 2018 Outback for nearly two years and not one OTA firmware or maps update - that is until I went to the dealer and waited an hour for them to manually load the new firmware and maps via USB. Outback always reported onboard software and MAPS were current, when in fact they were not as I could download maps from the updater and firmware/MAP updates at the dealership. Same for 2020 Limited XT Outback - Always reported up to date, even when I tried to force an update, or download maps for just my state - nada. The MAPS updater, of course, did report updates that I downloaded via USB (an hour long "process"). Also, of course, there was a firmware update made available for the 2020 XT early spring. No OTA update as of the time of its sale earlier this month. Also, as an aside, I needed to download and pay for maps for our 2017 CrossTrek this past February, as the three years free update window had closed. Going through that process yielded a receipt in a foreign language (see attached). Perhaps we are now on forth or fifth party providers - Outsourcers outsourced themselves...

For all the above reasons, I say "Poor Execution by SoA".

As for Tesla, yes the updates include bug fixes, map updates (twice/three times a year) Neural Net and Autopilot updates, new/improved safety functionality, new features, games and other functionality, performance upgrades (got two FREE 5% HP/Torque and range increase updates in the first six months), etc. Also got one complete rewrite of the user interface and will be getting another major interface update in a month or two. These seem to be on a yearly cycle. With other manufacturers, you have to trade in your car for the current model year to get the improvements (like Eyesight). MTFWTAW

The website subaru-maps.com, where the you can add your car to your profile is registered to "Harman Connected Services Poland Sp. z o.o." IMHO Harmon owns the website and mananges who can get NAV updates via their app. Subaru gives them VIN #s and experation dates... They get the info on the website, package the updates, which include firmware and NAV. So for the 2021 Treks our VINs aren't there yet. Really no big deal just download NAV updates via WIFI for the time being. Most people don't need all of north America.

Tried and got the msg all is up to date. Perhaps it is. Guess I’ll know when the updater eventually works for my VIN...
Maybe yours was built after mine and got the latest and greatest maps at the factory

Question, is yours a limited with nav and HK audio? I believe it has to be, if you have navigation. Also, what screens did you go to for the OtA maps update? Nav tab in settings and software update radio button or auto update where you select up to eight regions?

"where you select up to eight regions " I think the other area is for HU firmware updates

Yeah, tried that and didn’t see anything happen. Perhaps my state of WA is current?
I did MA and it worked. Try another state? As I said maybe yours was updated from the factory. What is the NAV version on your car?

Go to the Navigation tab in your settings screen and under the nav tab you can find map updates. That's where I found my maps when the system said there were no updates available. If there is nothing there, then I'd assme you are up-to-date.

Not so sure abou that. The TSB specifically states, "These files do NOT include Map Update data". But, on page 14, the chart has 20.28.70 under the map update column. Never noticed that distinction before.
They are all under row 4 of updates and the ** says "** NOTE: These Map Update Software I.D. numbers contain the same functional updates as the corresponding New Version I.D. numbers. "

Picked up my 2021 Crosstrek Limited in NYC on Monday and the HU is running Software Version Rel_UA.19.36.70 and Navi Database Version: North America_2017.03_7006_28/12545/272294/18208 Are these the latest releases available?

I tried downloading the latest Firmware/Maps bundle from subaru-maps.com, but the VIN# of my Crosstrek appears as invalid. While at the dealer I setup MySubaru App and had assumed that my VIN# would have been submitted to all SOA systems including subaru-maps.com. I emailed my dealer to make sure that the VIN#was submitted to all the SOA that require it, but have yet to hear back. I'm wondering if I need to wait for some time before all the SOA systems are updated. What's everyone else experience with SOA system that require a Valid VIN#?
