Subaru did great. More ground clearance and a sub-compact size does the trick. Real tight turning radius gets me around the acute turns. Get some wheel spin, but X-Mode figures it out.

Second off road drive. The rocks were wet and slippery but the Wilderness made the climb.
Discovered a warning label on the lower inside driver's door about the rear differential oil warning light on the dash and what to do if it illuminates. Strange location for a Warning Label, but it seems to be important. Found the explanation on page 163 of the Owner's Manual. So far, no light, that is good. I am really pushing it. Gas mileage is down to 22 MPG, once I start driving 'normally' it will get even worse.

Tire rotation: Front to rear, rears cross when going to the front. Just like I expected. Owner's Manual page 482.

Got a message on the instrument panel that I had been driving 2 hours. Not sure why this message is needed, but it was there.

Need to find out what Compass Zone I have. Refer to Owner's Manual page 248 to find out and change it.

Got a "On site ???? no camera view" or something to that effect. Came and went fairly quickly. Only did it once. It was raining hard so maybe the rain blocked its view. Haven't found anything in the Owners Manual, yet. Does anybody know what this is all about??

Is there an advertised "water fording depth"? Needs to be below any vent holes and below the engine air intake. If the tone rings are in the wheel hubs then it should be below the centerline of the axle. Don't plan on doing any water water with the Wilderness, but there was a lot of standing water on the roads yesterday. Hydroplaned once and it was pretty uneventful, usually vehicles tend to "loose it" when that happens. My guess is the Wilderness has a really good vehicle stability system that kept me out of trouble. It has sensors for everything known to mankind.

You just CONFIRMED a Thread I brought up about the rear differential temp sensor on the Wilderness. My Owners manual has NO REFERENCE to that sensor or light. P163 of my manual goes from AT Temp Light to Low Tire Pressure Warning. But mine was purchased in June 2023 BEFORE the wilderness was available.

ALSO you will get that message every hour the vehicle is running. I've seen it at 1, 2 3 4 and 5 hours on trips without stopping.

 

Added a AAA sticker, TRAIL HAWK emblem and painted the muffler black. Added a TRAIL HAWK avatar.

 

not to be rude but why add the trailhawk emblem?


I saw a similar item at cars and coffee it was a turbo and supercharged jeep that said NOT a HAWK on the badge of the same emblem. It sounded amazing!

 

RE: camera view. This notice will appear whenever your system can’t “see” clearly. It will happen whenever there is fog or frost on your windshield also. It’s just letting you know that it can’t detect lines or objects in front of you, and will not be able to use the semi automated cruise control properly.
your fuel mileage so far sucks! I hope mine isn’t that bad. Then again, maybe it’s due to the engine not being fully broken in yet?

 

It was raining really hard, so that would explain the message.

My Jeep Cherokee rarely got better than 20 MPG. I have a lead foot. When I finally get the Wilderness broken in I will a lot less than 24 MPG.
Off road I get about 2 MPG. That doesn't help the 'average'.

 

Mainly because I all ready had the emblem. Bought it years ago so a hat company could scan it and make a Cherokee Trailhawk hat.
Don't have my Cherokee anymore so I needed to put it somewhere.
Rebadged my Cherokee Trailhawk as a FIAT, since it wasn't a REAL Jeep, which I proved at great personal expense.
Now I can say I have the Worlds only Trailhawk rated Wilderness. It actually looks kind of sharp on the dark blue Wilderness.
Usually I de-badge, but this time I decided to add a badge. The Crosstrek badging actually looks pretty good.
Also, needed an avatar of some kind for this Forum.

 

Could feel a wheel loosing traction. So Vehicle Dynamic Control is what Subaru calls it. Seemed to have worked great. Didn't notice any warning lights. Mostly I was watching where I was going.

 

Successfully went off road on my Tree Farm again.
Gas mileage getting to and from my Tree Farm is about 25 MPG. The fill-up after driving off road is about 23 MPG.
Have made it past the 1000 mile break-in period, so all bets are off.
So far I am pleasantly surprised the Wilderness is doing so good off road and getting good highway gas mileage. The Yokohama tires get good traction even on wet rocks and muddy ruts.
X-MODE works. Discovered there is a picture for Snow/dirt and Snow/mud. Snow/dirt includes driving on rocks, cute.
Hill descent works as advertised, just wish I could select an absolute speed and maintain that speed. Having to recalibrate my right foot on the brake and gas pedals. Should have been an organist.

Their off road driving was a 'piece of cake' compared to where I drive on my Tree Farm.
Everything they didn't like about the Wilderness is exactly why it is the perfect vehilcle for me. Don't want a turbo or power liftgate or ???TBD. A lot smaller than a Bronco so I can get between my trees. The price is right, even with the Extended Warranty. Now that I am aware of GDI and CVT it is probably good that I got the Extended Warranty.

Bought the Crosstrek Wilderness specifically to get through this narrow passage. tree - rock - rock - tree. Have to keep right and make a sharp left turn and need to NOT hit the right corner on the tree. The front wheels can 'clear' the rock on the left but the rear wheels have a shorter turning radius and drives over the rock. If I do it just right the left rocker panel doesn't scrape rock. You can see where it is scraped.

 

where exactly are you going? just curious!
