I put an LED in mine (21 Limited). Much brighter. Everything else in the car is LED, so I kind of question why Subaru left the back light as an incandescent.

 

Wish I had time to do this before my next trip out. I've been keeping the hatch cracked open using a couple of carabineers to make the car think it was closed. May have to find a switch with a cover on it so I don't accidently hit it with my feet stretching out.

something like this? There are plenty of switch covers sold separate from the switches.

 

Good point. If I find one I'll just make a quick swap out. Would be nice if it was the same size OD as the current one.

 

Hate to somewhat zombie revive this one, but I finally went ahead and did this mod using Dilenttante's awesome video.

I encountered one difference. My 2021 Crosstrek sport had 4 wires instead of 2 in the video. It turns out it was the OUTSIDE blue and yellow wire that needed to be connected to for the button to operate. Hopefully that might save someone some trial and error.
