Hi!
I am a new member to this forum and hopefully I will be a new owner of 2018 crosstrek when it comes out.
Currently my wife drives a 2008 Tribeca which was really great for us for many years but it is time for an upgrade.

Last year I've learnt that MSRP is ... just a suggested price ;) I was buying a new Honda Accord and after playing their silly games for 3 hours, I managed to drop the sticker price from >$29k to $25k. Which was probably even below the invoice price.
So I know that this is how it works at Honda's dealers. Just play the game, be stubborn and you will get a great deal. Although it was very unpleasant and exhausting. But hey, $4k was worth it.

Does it work the same with Subaru salesman?
I know that few people here already ordered a new crosstrek. Did you haggle? How much below msrp can we get?

We are looking into getting the limited version ... mostly for the leather seats. I know it sounds crazy. But Tribeca spoiled us and with two kids leather is a must have because it is so much easier to clean :) And we are definitely getting the eyesight.

BTW, I've read somewhere that 2018 XV will by slightly bigger. Is it really? Will it be noticeable bigger?

Thank for any advices!

Always worth seeing if you can get them to come off MSRP, but a few caveats here. 1. Subaru typically sells much closer to MSRP than a lot of brands (check TrueCar in your area). 2. If you are going in and ordering a 2018 right when they are coming out, don't expect them to give much if anything. You clearly want it pretty bad if you are ordering one before dealers have stock, so they will know they have room to test how much you will pay.

Price discount varies by location. FL for example has greater discount than New England due to difference in demand. Check out websites like KBB and TrueCar for prices in your location. You won't see anything for 2018 price unfortunately and very hard to get discount for 2018 pre-order anyway. If you want a bigger car than Crosstrek (2017 and 2018 is about the same size), Subaru is coming out with Tribeca upgrade which may be more to your taste.

I ordered my Crosstrek at a "no haggle" dealer. I don't like the whole "let me ask my manager" process at other dealers. This dealer posts on their site the MSRP for a given vehicle, then their discount amount for the final price. My discount was around $800. I don't know what formula they use to determine the discount, but it varies over time, and apparently between vehicles. I just looked at what discounts they have on 2017 Limiteds, and it varies between $621 for a standard Limited model, and $950 for one loaded up with a moonroof and more.

I don't think you'll get much off of a new XTrek. The 2018 is a new, updated model and it's just being introduced. Also, there seems to be a strong demand for them, judging by the sales numbers. Never hurts to ask, though!

The main thing is to make sure you get the color and features you want. If there's a particular feature you want, but it's not at the price you want, you don't want to "settle" for the one with the better price and be missing that feature for the years you'll have the car. ;)

There are some good dealers in the NE if you are willing to travel a little. I suggest you do all of the negotiation via email. That is the easiest way. Request lots of out the door price quote from several dealers and choose the one you feel most comfortable with.

The days of sitting at a dealer for the back and forth are not necessary.

Thank you for your replies. I was afraid that with a new model there won't to be too much room for discounts.
But I am surprised that even older models also are being sold "closer to msrp". Of course this is on one hand good - this is how I believe it should be everywhere at every dealer. MSRP just need to be adjusted to be closer to real value and they should spare us having to haggle.
But then, if we compere a true price with direct competitors, subaru starts to be on rather more expensive side.
Anyway, thank you again. I will go to a dealer and look closely at 2017 XV to get an idea what I can expect from 2018 XV which at least on paper looks like a perfect choice for my wife.

Sounds like you will have a lot of car for the money. I purchased my 16 from my brother. He was a finance manager at the time for a Subaru dealership. He laughed when I mentioned MSRP. It's just a start in the bargaining process. I purchased mine for 2% under dealer invoice. I also purchased a warranty and wheel and tire, slightly above their cost. They can sell warranties for double to triple what they own it for. I also got the Subaru warranty, not aftermarket. This was obviously done with the blessing of the owner. They basically didn't make any money on the deal. They can't do this on a regular basis, or they wouldn't stay in business. It's done routinely for employees. I keep my vehicles for the long run, so hopefully won't need to go to the process for a while.

I bought from a 'no haggle dealer'. They were very nice. When I asked to see numbers, they obliged. When I said "I need to stew on it", the manager found a reason to introduce himself. Educate yourself. Ignorance is the only excuse for getting jacked at the dealership. If you aren't happy with the 'deal' you are getting, WALK AWAY!!!

I ordered my 2018 crosstrek limited on Friday. i got it with several options (eyesight, moonroof, rockford fosgate audio, all weather floor mats. rear seat cargo area protector, etc..).

The dealer dropped over $3K without me even having to ask. I was very happy with the deal and wrote the check immediately :)

Subaru sent me an email that it is in the queue to build and is expected to arrive the last week of August.

Here in KY I just ordered the 2.0i Limited, Sunshine Orange with black leather interior with package 23 (Eyesight, navigation, moonroof, Harman Kardon speakers), all weather floor mats, rear seatback protector, and rear bumper cover. MSRP $30,938. I'm paying $28,580.

That's pretty good for brand new car that isn't out yet and the dealer still had tons of 2017s he wanted to sell, right?

Just curious if any of you did a trade in when purchasing your 2018's. I plan on getting some prices for a 2018 limited. I would like to trade my existing suv in as well. I guess it may be harder to do that via e-mails.

Never tell them you're doing a trade-in when negotiating price.

I negotiated price via email, then showed up at the dealer when it came in with a $500 coupon someone here had given me, and I told them I wanted to do a trade-in. My trade-in, however, was negligible. I was going to junk the car, but didn't want to deal with the plates, so I traded it in for a price that was worth my time not spend dealing with it. But, in the past I've done the same - throw in the trade at the end.

I just got a quote yesterday for a '18 Limited with Eyesight (Option Package #22). I figure I'll get the Homelink mirror, seat protectors, etc. afterwards and install them myself to save the dealer upcharge. Plus, it's fun to do some DIY. :) MSRP is $29305 and the dealer has offered it to me for $27615. That's $1690 below MSRP. I'm debating ordering still... mostly because I can't decide between a blue or red exterior. Seems like a decent deal, but part of me still wants a little more.

Just ask your dealer if they corrected the oil consumption for 2018. My 2014 burns 2qts bet. oil changes. And if you are going to the dealers for oil changes beware of the 6qts they bill you for. the XV 2.0 engine only requires 5qts and 3ounces(.1 of a quart) with filter they overcharge you for 29ounces and if your vehicle burns oil you are going to need add more at your expense. Do the math.

Bring up the trade in first. Typically they will low ball you.
Check kelly blue book.com to see what you can expect on trade in and private sale. Once you know if you are trading in and agreed to the price, then i would give the coupon

If you feel they are low balling you, negotiate higher for your trade in. Take the trade in amount that they offer, multiply that by your tax rate and that total is what the trade in is worth to you. Subtract that total from what you think you could sell it for privately, and that difference is what you can decide whether or not you want to do the trade in.
