I’m from Calgary as well but mine won’t be here until November as I was told. Maybe because I ordered the Offshore Blue. I got mine from Centaur. Just like you, I can’t wait and since I won’t get mine closer to winter, I’m looking at winter tires and rims already and I can’t buy any older rims because they change the bolt patter in the 2024s.

This will be the first Subaru that I’ll own.

I ordered mine early June from Centaur as well, and actually got the VIN yesterday 😁.
We have more choice with the new bolt pattern, Impreza, forester, wrx/sti are compatible. We still have a bit of time till winter comes, hopefully.

Mine’s a 2023, also ordered from Centaur. I will say that those guys are great - best dealer experience ever!

But, oh yeah, the wait. Ordered mine mid-July 2022 and it finally came mid-January 2023. Six months! Glad to hear the wait has come down for the new ones.

I was never much of an WRX fan, but actually really like the current generation WRX. Would have bought one, but just needed the Crosstrek’s hatchback practicality.

Agree, centaur offers better experience than the “other guys”… at least they are honest on the price…

Did you buy the warranty extension? I’m evaluating price/convenience

Welcome @Silver Fox24 and @Budmelon! Fellow Calgarian here.

I'm lukewarm on Centaur as a dealership. Their sales department is pretty good but has high staff turnover. Their parts department is awesome! Their service techs overfill engine oil (5 full litres) from an overhead tank filled with Mobil1 0W20 on oil changes and they over-tighten oil filters. But they do use a torque wrench on the oil pan drain plug. Scheduled lubrication of hinges and hood/fuel filler door release cables is hit-and-miss. Mostly miss.

I've established a relationship with a reputable indy service shop for my 2021 Crosstrek Outdoor. Bliss, so far ...

Which shop are you going to?
It’s gonna be my first new car in North America, can the factory warranty be compromised if you service the car in a non authorized shop?

 

Subaru can’t deny the warranty if you’ve got receipts for all the required maintenance, whether you do it yourself or at an indie shop.

But…

If I ever have a problem with my car, I’d much rather have the service writer at the dealership pull up his records and see a full service history from his shop.

If there’s ever a questionable warranty item or grey area, I think there’s a much stronger chance of them going to bat for you if you’re not some stranger who walks in off the street with a shoe box full of receipts.

But once the warranty is up I’m happy to do the maintenance myself or find a good indie shop for the bigger jobs.

 

This is becoming a big deal now. California just passed the Right to Repair Act, requiring that independent mechanics have access to the tools and data necessary to perform services.

 

Oh, and about the oil “overfilling:” I’m really not concerned.

The factory “overfills” the cars with 5 liters and by most accounts every dealer also “overfills” with 5 liters.

I suspect they do it intentionally, but maybe they’re all just too lazy to measure out the exact amount. Either way, I’m sure it’s fine.

Just that I test drove a WRX there back in 2010. Wasn’t impressed by the WRX so bought a GTI instead.

But when I was shopping for the Crosstrek I did see that every car Subaru Calgary advertised had a mandatory “protection package” or some such that added a couple grand to the price. Centaur didn’t.

I just talked the salesman, my Crosstrek is waiting in Japan! It seems because of the strikes in Vancouver port, the shipping is a bit messed up.

8” width is ok, but wouldn’t be my first choice for a winter rim though. I’d rather go 7” or 7.5” to get a little more rubber protecting the rim.

Also make sure the bolt pattern is correct. I know it changed for the ‘24 Crosstreks, but no idea how that relates to the WRX.

According to the seller the bolt pattern is 5x114,3 like the new Crosstrek, but I'll try them on when the car is here just to make sure they fit.

The offset of those WRX wheels is bang on but narrower wheels (7-7.5") would be a better fitment, as @AM407 has mentioned.

Still, if the price is right, those WRX take-offs will do admirably as a winter wheel set for your 2024 Crosstrek Onyx. One of your other options is a steel winter wheel set via the dealer or aftermarket. There are also inexpensive aftermarket alloy wheels like RTX.

You will, however, need a different tire size than the Yokohama iceGuards currently mounted on that WRX wheel set. You'll want a 225/60R17 (OEM-diameter) or 225/65R17 (1-inch larger than OEM-diameter) set of winter tires. The Michelin X-Ice Snow SUV or Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV in 225/65R17 would be an excellent choice for a studless winter tire, well-suited to Alberta winters on snow-packed, paved or graveled roads (lotsa freeze/thaw cycles).

Or do you anticipate venturing off-pavement frequently in the deep of winter? If so, that's an en-"tire"-ly different conversation. A conversation about deep-snow-flotation vs. skinny-enough-to-dig-and-find-traction.

the wheels in the picture were only to show the shape, the ones I’m wondering to buy are without tires.
As you perfectly explained , I’ll stay with Oem size and Hakka winters, I’m very curious to try them. Before I used Continental on Volvo XC60 and they were amazing!

Great price! You'd be hard pressed to buy 4 new steel wheels for that price.

Banged-up, curb-rashed, used alloy wheels can be refinished for a reasonable cost. My 5th wheel (full-size spare tire) is a refinished, used OEM alloy wheel.

PS- My sister is a diehard Volvo XC60 fan. She's on her third one. But she sure has been eyeballin' my Crosstrek.

 

No deal. It turned out that only one rim was “ok” , the other 3 were worst than a grater for Parmigiano

Hi i just saw this thread about this wrx rims, i also bought a wrx rims from the market place even though i dont have any idea if it will gonna fit my car. i have a crosstrek touring 2024. is the rims the same size of your trim?

Nokian Hakkapelliitta R5 SUV 225/60R17 103R on a 2015-2021 Subaru WRX #28111VA020 17x8 wheel, yes?

I loves me my Nokian Tyres. I've been running them, off and on/mostly on, since the mid-1980's. I'm currently on a 5-tire set of the Nokian Outpost APT, in the 225/65R17 flavor.

Which Kal Tire location did you go to? I use the one at 404 42nd Ave SE.
