I purchased a 22 Manual Premium CrossTrek which comes with 17 inch wheels and Yokahama Geolander tires. I am not a fan of the tires already with just 300 miles on them. I will upgrade to an all-season Michelin tire or equivalent tire. My question is how well the people with the 18 inch wheels are dealing with handling, bumps , potholes etc. I come from driving high performance cars with low profile tires( and I am used to driving around craters), but I am wondering if I can gain some handling with using an 18 inch wheel/ tire combo ( which higher trims have as standard) without losing the supple suspension and ride from the 17 inch combo. The car is very slow so I don't slow down that much in corners, if possible , to keep the momentum going. The steering is quite sharp, direct and generally feels good . A little better handling would be a benefit. So did anyone drive with both sizes of wheels and have any thoughts? Thank you .
