Hi everyone, I apologize if this has been well-covered but I'm pretty new to the forum (and my 2023 Crosstrek Sport), and I didn't see any posts specifically related to this.

Just hoping for some good intel before my dash camera arrives... How did you route the wire to the back hatch, etc. Thank you so much!!

There are quite a few threads. Try searching for dash cam. I went under the headliner above the doors. You just have to be careful to go behind the airbags. Others have gone under the carpet. There are pros and cons to both.

I agree with Astrocats. I have put in the YouTube link to the video I used for our ‘22 Forester. It is an easy install…just take your time. The important part is the A pillar…putting the wire under the air bag. Even though it’s a forester…the Crosstrek is pretty much the same install as I did the same thing putting it in that car Too. Do you have a rear cam too?
Great dash cam install video.

Late edit as after posting I noticed your question about running the cable to the rear. I have posted a link to another good video…a Forester…but applies to the crosstrek as well. I actually pulled the head liner down a bit in the back so I coul coil the excess cable under there.
Running the cable to the rear window.

I did this on my first gen, most cams come with longer wire so I couldn’t go through the tubes in the hatch. Should be similar to the current gen. I wanted to use the console 12v so you couldn’t see the plug.

Here’s how I ran the front cam.

Here’s how I ran the front cam.

I used a fuse tap from the fuse box and ran the rear cam cable through the tubes to the hatch but the connector was a Mini-USB which was a bugger to get through with the other cables and washer hose in there.

Yes…fishing the wire through the wire harness tube in the back can, depending on the connection plug to the camera, can be a royal PIA. You need a small wire or string as your fish line. Fortunately the Thinkware plug is small and went through fairly easily.

I replied to another dashcam post a little while ago: for my dashcam install I have a battery pack under the driver's seat power goes from the fusebox under the dash to the battery, back up the a pillar to the camera and the rear camera usb goes back down and along the door sills to the rear hatch. I had enough extra cable for a service loop under the dash and another in the usb cable in the sidewall behind the rear seat. Here is the other post with the YouTube videos I referenced to open up the panels: Model Years 2018 to 2023 - Need Help Setting Up Dash Cam

Yes, definitely the way to go if you want to use parking mode, otherwise you drain the car's battery. The power to the battery should go from the ACC power, not always on.
