Something I'm not sure I understand. When you get your car registered at the RMV, they give you two plates. Not to be snarky, but couldn't you guess what the second plate was for?
Not registered yet. I have about ten days left. The second plate is a backup in the case the other one gets damaged, right? ;)

Our dealer here in Los Angeles actually required us to sign a paper acknowledging that CA law require the mounting of a front plate. Which I thought was odd.

Like @AstroKats I've engaged in "civil disobedience" when it comes to mounting (not) a front plate on my 2003 MINI Cooper S, as it would defile the beauty.

Not that my wife's new Desert Khaki Crosstrek isn't a thing of beauty--it surely is--but it came pre-drilled and somehow I'm not "offended." LOL

Only had one ticket for lack of plates over all these years. Where else but Santa Monica?

I did see the other day that CA has approved a vendor to supply "stick on" front plates printed on vinyl (I think) . But the fees involved made me recoil.

Seriously? Only one ticket and it was in Santa Monica?! I rest my case...

Hah! Never having had a lot of money, I'm also loath to spend money on stuff.
Then last Saturday happened: I got a rare, limited-edition motorcycle (used) at an amazing price and now I'm looking at about another $1,500 in expenses to get it all ship-shape. Better than a Lotus...

With god as my witness. Santa Monica.

For a while I rigged up a way to pretend "mount" the front plate, but only did that in Santa Monica--where I played rugby. Then one day, I forgot I set it up and lost the plate. Oh well.

I love Santa Monica otherwise, but they must rack up a lot of fees going after scofflaws like us.

I like being really cheap, because when something comes along that has high value--such as the rare motorcycle one desires--the money is there to be put to good use.

Paying $50 a year to use a "sticker" instead of a traditional front plate (which IMS is the fee) rubs me the wrong way.

But buying something--even an expensive something--that feels like it is worth every penny is a different story.

One would think they'd have enough with the 10.25% sales tax and tourist revenue. My very low key act of civil disobedience will be to not deface this:

It would be an absolute crime to drill into that Lotus.

While it would not be officially legal (or especially desirable) I wonder if a DIY "vinyl" made after scanning the front plate would get past the authorities in Santa Monica? I bet it would.

Heck, If I lived in (or parked regularly in) Santa Monica, I might be tempted to have a stack of "vinyls" that I could peel on and off to beat the system. Hmmm.

LOL, I was thinking of some kind of magnetic attachment, or toss the front plate on the dash. I'll let you know how long I can hold out...

So what our Crosstrek has done for me today, is to allow me to feel good about my wife commuting in a fairly sizable rainstorm and not having any concerns about her safety on the road.

We've had highly unusual wet weather here in Los Angeles since we purchased this car (taking delivery on Boxing Day) and it has sincerely given me added peace of mind knowing she's driving in a new Subaru.

Bill (who has no desire to get banned on his first day ;) )

I did do a velcro strap attachment with my front plate (through the grill of my MINI when I parked in Santa Monica, but--as I mentioned--one day I forgot and lost the plate. I bet a DIY vinyl sticker would fly.

Yeah, I even contemplated for a minute about getting a personalized license plate for this bike but at $50 a year? And is the plate for me or for the reactions of others seeing the plate? No go.

Someone must have been complaining a lot. This isn't the first time one of the mods has mentioned it. Delete away...

IIRC, there are two indentations, not holes, in the front bumper where holes could be drilled for a U.S. license plate. Are you saying there are now four holes?
I can't speak for dpc166, but I have four holes in my bumper. The two factory 5/16th holes that I was going to use the bumperplugs for, and two holes drilled by the dealership.

The dealership is going to pay for getting this fixed.

SC

[edit] And by pay for I mean that they are eating the cost of the body shop correcting this horrible abomination of sheer stupidity of drilling into bumper. [/edit]

Yesterday, I installed the:
INTGET Car Center Console Armrest Cover

... and Quickster2 skillfully steers this thread back onto the rails, even though I love a good side discussion about superfluous holes!!

That INTGET console armrest cover is one of the better looking ones I've seen:

INTGET Car Center Console Armrest Cover for Subaru Crosstrek

Alas ...it's not available in gray. My Canadian Outdoor edition has the 2-tone gray StarTex upholstery so I've been eyeballin' this gray neoprene console armrest cover:

Subaru Crosstrek 2018-2022 Neoprene Center Console Cover

However, between the two, the INTGET console cover appears to be a much more tailored fit. Thanks for posting.
