I had been experience a rumble / rattle when accelerating at low RPMs in the 30-50 mph range. After opening the hood to investigate, I noticed that the dust cap for the strut upper mount was slightly ajar.

When I took the dust cap off to investigate, I found that there was a great deal of rust at the Strut Upper Mount Lock Nut (pictures below). On the other side, I found less rust, but standing water.

It appears that the dust caps for either side have small tears allowing water in. I'm cleaning up the dust cap and will apply gorilla tape as a temporary fix.

I am not sure if others have experienced this, but I would recommend popping the hood open and checking yours.

Additionally, wanted to get the forums' take on whether I should spray something like WD-40 to help in just removing the rust / corrosion control.

There is a tsb about this, the dealer should fix it. I would give them a call, someone mentioned if you are out of warranty they won’t , not sure though
