Hello, I am a newbie to Subaru with a 2013 XV Crosstrek, so 🐻 with me and my Suspension question. I recently got my car inspected and passed (of course) even with an old car, I take care of everything I own. While driving into NYC on our lovely potholed roads my husband hit a doozie and now my passenger front wheel makes a spring-y sound, and when turning the wheel to the right it makes a rubbing sound, like the tire is flattened but it’s not.
Our mechanic said it is the boot, it’s been worn out and deteriorated and I need a new one. It doesn’t hurt the car in any way not to fix it but THE SOUNDDD!!! I can’t take it, I can only turn up the radio so loud, 😂
Do I replace just the boot or would I replace the whole control arm mechanism?? 🤔
Also he said my struts are OEM and might want to think about replacement soon on those. Is this something I (handy husband and myself) can do at home or would you recommend letting the mechanic do it?
any information is appreciated—Thanks

I checked…no grease and it’s not a clicking sound so maybe it is a bad CV joint, which we have replaced on my old 2002 Nissan Altima and not a bad job at all. Thank you very much for the feedback

link a binding and releasing spring noise as the steering wheel is turned? strut bearing will make that noise when bad.
a strut boot or cv boot will not make that noise
My husband just said the mechanic called him and told him it’s the bearing. We can do that at home with parts I can order. Thanks for your input 🙏 I was hoping it wasn’t a break the bank kinda job. 😉 I love this car. Actually got into an accident in 2020 with a 2013 XV and went and got another one!!
