Cruised the forum to see if someone else noticed, but it appears you can prop the hood up on at least a 2018+ in a second location that makes the hood sit a little higher.
Fits securely in a slot that is basically the same as the labeled spot. Just thought it was interesting.
On the older Crosstreks, the secondary location was on the hinge itself. If that point was used. the hood would stand straight up. Makes for changing an engine or working on your valve body a lot easier. I'm sure it was posted on here yet can't find the thread.
So far just about every Subaru I've owned has that option, even our old Brats back in the day. I do a lot of work on my own cars and like this feature. It's kind of why I don't like the hood struts. Some had a little plug you removed to show the opening. It's usually on or by the strut tower. Some have a little loop welded on just for that reason. Cool feature
The 1st gen Crosstreks had the secondary prop position on the hood hinge. Allows the hood to be placed straight up. I guess they planned for easy engine replacement from the get go.
Knew I had a pic, found it. Notice the nice primer colored engine bay some colors came with.
What I don't like about not changing the lower position of the prop rod is, now it's in the way if you want to work on the passenger side (LHD) of the motor Still better than not having the option.
This is super helpful, thanks! I was surprised the first time I opened the hood because I haven't had a car with a prop stick in years. I expected it to have a hydraulic thing to hold it like my Cobalt.
