Oops, I need help. Front passenger door panel

So, I was all ready to upgrade the front door speakers in my '23 Sport on the weekend. I watched a bunch of videos, read the forums, and the instructions from Crutchfield.

It didn't go as planned.

I don't know where the problem is, but the speaker mounts that Crutchfield supplied I think need some trimming (I was prepared to do so on the driver side, because the mounts are asymmetrical, but are supplied the same one for both sides). I couldn't get the door panel back on, so I figured it was the speaker. I measured and compared, but didn't have time to trim the material.

I put the stock speaker back in, but now I can't get the door panel back on.

All the videos make it look so easy, so I wasn't expecting this. They all seem different and much easier than mine. There is a pin that the door has to slide onto, towards the front of the car, beside the speaker, above the , and then the top of the door panel has to sit down and over the door at the bottom of the window. I can't seen to get both at the same time.

I managed to get the door closed, and it locks.

I embarrassingly called the dealer this morning, and am even more embarrassingly writing this now. (only way to learn is to make mistakes, right?)

Does anyone have any tips for getting the door panel back on? I am willing to give it another go.

I think I just realized what I was doing wrong.

I think there was a clip stuck in the metal door, and I need to take it out and put it in the door panel, then put the door panel on! D'oh! :banghead:

I was going to suggest looking for clips that stayed in the door instead of coming off with the panel. I had that exact thing happen when I changed out my speakers. Fortunately at least one of the videos I watched highlighted this.

For any questions regarding installation, even those about trim removal and replacement, call Crutchfield. I had some questions for them and the support was awesome.

Crutchfield are awesome...
I feel your pain. I had to take down the headliner to install a Prinsu rack. Those clips are my nemesis….
