...to change one thing about your XV, what might it be? The given is that we'd all like the option of a larger engine, so no need to beat that horse. I'll start with mine:

With all the controls on the steering wheel spokes, why isn't the horn button there? I don't like having to take my hand off the wheel to smack the horn in a fast moving situation. My thumbs rest naturally on the outside edges of the control sections and those blank areas would be perfect for thumb activated BEEP BEEP! Not to mention having both hands always on the wheel and away from the airbag.

Anyone else?

Have a dual-range 5-speed manual transmission available on the North American XV. I've burned quite a bit of clutch off-road. The single-range 5-speed manual has its limitations that makes the CVT a significantly better choice for off-roading.

Either a more powerful gasoline version or bring over the diesel. The first of those may happen when they revise the XV (assuming they will). The second will probably not happen in the US anytime soon.

A spare tire well large enough to fit a full-sized spare. Even my little '12 Hyundai Accent hatchback had one, in spite of the fact that in the U.S.market they don't come with any type of a spare and it took Hyundai a couple of years to offer OEM donuts as an optional accessory. I had to DIY a full size spare using a generic steel rim. Hyundai initially lost- and continues to lose- a lot of good will over that issue. Subaru owners aren't nearly as outraged over their spare tires- we're not generally opening the trunk when we get the car home and having a WTF?!? moment- nonetheless, it is a significant oversight and poor understanding of their customers to market a vehicle for having some off-pavement prowess and then crippling the vehicle's ability to achieve that. A full size spare that fits neatly in the rear compartment could at least be offered as part of an offroad package or an optional accessory.

AC/Heat vents for the backseat.
Not the optimal solution, but I am pretty sure there are floor vents leading to the back seat if you set it on floor. I may be remembering incorrectly, but I think they were there when I installed my under seat sub.

Yep, they are there. Unfortunately, the auto climate controls default to front vents only for A/C.

They are in what amounts to a lousy location however as they are near the front of the seat so much of the air is diffused before it gets to the rear area. You can possibly build some ducts from the front to the back area however as the distance is only maybe 12 inches (30 cm).

Why am I confused on the horn issue? It is on the wheel where it belongs but they could spring for a better horn, better seats and at least the hp of a Miata.

Otherwise a great car for my needs.

Speed sensing door locks, that also unlock when the transmission goes into park. My last 2 vehicles had them and I guess I took them for granted since I didn't realize the Subaru didn't have them until after I bought it.

I would love it if I could roll my windows down after turning off the engine, but I have yet to exit the vehicle. Same goes for getting in the vehicle; just powering up the battery to roll the windows up/down. Seriously, why do i have to turn the engine almost-on in order to run my windows? If the battery can power my radio it should be able to let me power my windows too. That's my biggest wish. :)

1) Sliding visors
2) Better AC when recirculation is off
3) Heated steering wheel
4) Faster "acquisition" of radio signal when starting car
5) Paint the engine compartment bodycolor (no useful value - just looks cheap unpainted)
