This video is of the Forrester and is most like the Crosstrek’s seat.

I’ve managed to open up the backseat but I am a little shy to actually take the plastic piece out. Has anyone had success doing this?

Would you consider replacing the OEM front seat(s) with a custom-fit seat?

If fully customizable seating comfort is worth a few bux ...

Just purchased a 2020 Crosstrek limited and having back problems after three days. Never had this problem with any car and really upsetting. I drive a lot for work often in long periods of traffic. Wondering if anyone has any more advice. Maybe a seat cushion. Or replacing the driver seat? I won't be able to keep this car for very long at this rate.

Have to put the seat in places you wouldn't normally in a car, because the seat is higher off the floor. More of a normal sitting position than practically lounging like a '90's Honda Accord.
They are a bit "huggy" in the hips so wider folk do tend to feel that worse because the sides are not so flexible.

I bought a new 2023 Crosstrek Sport last week. The seat felt good on the test drive, but now I'm having intense sharp pains in my lower back after a week of driving 60-120 minutes per day. It is a dealbreaker if I can't get it fixed. I had a 2010 Outback, 2014 Crosstrek, and 2013 VW GTI previously, and none of those vehicles gave me these back issues. Following the ideas on this thread, I unzipped my seat and pulled out the plastic lumbar support. The lumbar support is clearly far too aggressive in shape. I went for a quick drive and the back pain is immediately gone, but I'm noticing now that there will be a collapsing feeling without anything back there to hold up the seat cushion. I'm going to drive it this way for a week and see how it feels.

I took some photos of the lumbar piece and sketched up a quick prototype model in Fusion360. It looks like I'll be able to design and 3D print new lumbar shapes on my Prusa MK3S+. I'm going to try designing and 3D Printing a less aggressive lumbar support that holds up the seat cushions without poking so hard into my lower back.

Can't speak for the 2020. I have a 2013 and I drive it from Texas to Wyoming every month non stop a little over 1000 miles. I am 6'4 225 lbs. I have adjusted and found my perfect position. Not the same position I have in other vehicles. Just have to find the sweet spot.

I live daily with a buggered-up spine and 24/7 sciatic nerve pain. Initially, I've had seating discomfort in every vehicle I've owned over the past 13 years (Honda, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and now Subaru). But once I manage to dial-in the ALL of the driver's seat adjustments to my preferences over a period of 2 or 3 months, I've managed to become quite comfortable in each of my vehicles. It's a laborious "tweakery" process. Note: every service tech will faff about and bugger-up your hard-won formula of seat adjustment comfort.

In terms of the Crosstrek's seating position, what's most comfortable and spine-friendly for me is low seat height; fairly upright back rest angle; able to rest wrists on rim of steering wheel with elbows bent and shoulders still touching the seat backrest; knees slightly bent with feet on the dead rest pedal and accelerator pedal. No "gangsta slouch" seating position for this COB (Cranky Old B*stard).

Also, if you love the car but hate the seats, no matter what, you might consider looking into quality aftermarket seats. Yeah, expensive ... but not as expensive as the hit you'll take by flipping your Crosstrek for something else.

I'm seriously thinking of giving this a try.....

People who have used them on their Toyota Tacoma's swear by them.

What do you think?!

I put them on my front passenger seat due to my wife not being able to adjust the seat to comfortably fit her. She likes the change that they made.

I used a folded up towel to see if the seat being higher up at the front would help. I think it did. Enough to make me want to give these Seat Jackers a try. But it's hard to tell for sure given that it's almost impossible to slide across a seat without the towel bunching up a bit. But after removing the towel after half an hour of driving the seat felt especially low and awkward. I hope this works because after waiting 7 months for this car I don't want to avoid going out in it because it hurts my legs, etc.

😟

DDI Seat Jackers are a remedy for seats with inadequate thigh support. With the front of the seat(s) "jacked" higher, you'll get some additional thigh support but you'll also become more firmly planted into the lumbar section of the seat back. If the OEM lumbar support is already torture, I can't see the seat jackers helping matters. I dunno ...

I done went and did it.

Ordered the Seat Jackers. $150.13 Canadian. Yikes!
Just curious... do you think these Seat Jackers will void any part of your warranty?
If the power seat stopped working... Could Subaru say it's my fault?!
Probably? Yeah. That's what I'm thinking.
Oh well....You only live once.

You don't touch any of the wiring harnesses under the seat during installation of the 'seat jackers'.
Four bolts are holding the seat rails to the floorpan. Two in the front and two in the back. The front bolts have to come completely out and the two in the back have to be loosened about four turns. Place the 'SJ' blocks under the front rails and just find the attachment holes in the floorpan and get the new front bolts started. Tighten down the rear bolts then tighten down the front bolts. FINISHED.
