I found that just lightly touching the accelerator releases the E-Brake. Forgive me if anyone except me realized that.
Disclaimer-it does that on my '22 Forester.

I'm assuming (yeah, I know) that the 2022 Forester has an electrical emergency-brake system.

My '13 Legacy had hill holder with electric E-brake. It would release when the gas was pressed unless you weren't wearing your seat belt. Badging in the parking deck at work made that terribly annoying.

Yes.. As described in the owners manual... Prerequisites are that you are wearing your seat belt, shift the car into drive or reverse, let go of the service brake, and then when you press down on the accelerater it will release the electric parking brake.

I don't use it much, though, because I find the car will lurch too aggressively.

I think they might be confusing the Auto Vehicle Hold (AVH) with ebrake?

AVH just holds onto the brakes for you (meant to assist at lights etc) and will disengage with the slightest touch of the accelerator.
