Gee, I wonder how that got in there? (sarcasm off)
No kidding haha.

As far as I know...since techs are flat-rate, when a "come back" comes in, the same tech would have to fix it at no extra time charged... wonder if the same guy had to fix mine or if they just got someone else to make it right

Depending on the size of the place, it was either the first guy available, or a specialist in that system. If they had a brakes specialist, then you never should have needed to go back. So it was probably the first guy available.

More mods..

Got a raido for trips and didnt like any of the "off the shelf" options. I ended up buying this mount off amazon: Amazon.com: Rugged Radios MT-5R-HM Single Side Radio & Hand Mic Mount for Rugged V3, RH5R, RDH & Baofeng Handheld Radios but did not want to use the self tapping screws directly into some of the interior trim.

I wanted:
-something within easy reach while driving
-easy to install/remove
-no perm "damage" to the interior
-not expensive

So made my own haha. Made a bracket to mount the amazon one I bought. Tore apart the center console and ended up in the dash.

The bracket i came up with

Mounted behind the drivers hvac vent

wrapped it black to look decent

amazon mount connected

radio

Not TOTALLY happy with it, but it'll do for now in time for the next trip. Version two will be coming at some point im sure hah.

hahaha. I wouldnt trust tape while off-road, especially when it gets hot, especially on a bumpy trail.

Tape does fine for the dash cam, glass is a perfectly flate, smooth surface, and the cam weights next to nothing. No real great flat/smooth surface around the dash, and the radio is MUCH heavier than the cam.

radio mount version 2.

Moved it over to the passenger vent. I liked the placement of ver 1 better since it was closer to the driver, but one thing I did not figure into the mount before i made ver 1.. it was almost blocking the key from going into the ignition haha. I could still get the key in and turn the car on, but it was not "normal". Had to bend my wrist a certain way and only hold the key with 2 fingers.

So ver 2 obviously takes care of that, and is only slightly further away. Can still open the glovebox just fine, and not in the way of the passenger at all.

Couldn't you just use a friction mount something like this
And just have it on the top in front of your lie-O-meter? That's what I do for my GPS.

Sat was an off road day. Myself and 6 other cars (2 other Subarus) did the 20+ mile trek to just shy of Tahoe. The trail was MUCH worse condition than it was last year when I did it. Took just over 4 hours to cover the trail (including stops).

If that red car behind you could do it, how hard could it be?

I wanted the radio down lower, less things seen from other drivers the better (for my preference haha)

Red car has a 1 inch lift on Sparco rims and KO2 tires as well haha. He scrapped his bumper a few times through some of the dry creek beds that are filled with loose river rock

Yeah, if C19 had happened 14 months earlier, I would have just kept my Tacoma (traded it in recently for my wife’s new Outback...which we both love) and not gotten the CT. Get a commuter car only to no longer have a commute!

No joke!

I bought the Crosstrek on a 5 year loan for small monthly payments. Last month was 3 years of owning, and Ill have the car paid off next month... So my original plan was to wait 6-8 months then buy a commute car since I sold the STi earlier this year. The Crosstrek will move over to the meet/weekend car. Buuuuuut, no point in buying a commute car while im not commuting!

Paid the car off this month :)

When I bought it, I signed up for a 7 year loan to keep the min payments suuuuper low. There is no penalty for paying it off early, so I had never done the min payment. After selling the STi I started throwing A LOT more monthly to the loan.

Sept was 3 years of owning it, so I got the loan paid off just shy of 4 years early, happy with that :)

No real updates. Have only driven the car once in the last week - to go get a covid test.

Wife works in healthcare and got a positive test. 4 days later i started having symptoms so insurance had me to get tested and sure enough im positive now too (no big surprise). No car wrenching for the next foreseeable few weeks.

Yikes, sorry. I think you're the first one here to post a positive test result. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery for you both...
