Today for the second time I could not start mt 2024 Crosstrek as the alert on the screen indicated the steering was locked. After playing with the steering for about 10 minutes I was able to get the car started. Would anyone here have an idea what happened? How to prevent this again?

Make a note of date, time, parked on level or incline, steering wheel in straight ahead or other position, wheel against curb or not. This can help Subaru if your steering wheel locks up again, delaying startup if you decide to bring it in for Subaru to diagnose under new car warranty. While still new to me, numerous error codes unrelated to emissions control may not turn on the check engine indicator but store the errors for Subaru to retrieve. Better readers/scantools, used by repair shops, can decode hidden errors. One manufacturer describes these as wrench codes with a separate wrench symbol requiring dealer or aftermarket readers/scantool to decode, stored in a history file.
