Can Auto start/stop lead to premature starter failure

I’m actually using mine as much as possible just as an experiment until the next oil change. I want to see how many hours and my listed fuel savings at extreme usage. Will post back when the experiment is over. Yes, it’s not worth it I can tell already but I’m having fun making the numbers go up and realizing how much time I waste sitting in traffic

Yes, I noticed the difference in switches, 2024 is software switch in GUI so I was hoping Subaru had a permanent disable switch somewhere deep in the software settings. So far, I cannot find it but there might be a software hack or keystroke sequence that I don’t know about. But could hacking the A S/S software void the Subaru warranty?
If your eyesight system fails or anything related to it I imagine they would try to deny any claims you attempt to make

Just a guess on my part; Subaru and other manufacturers must have considered long term, repeated starter use from A/S/S over and above everyday usage from mechanical and electrical perspectives. Using 0w16 synthetic oil reduces mechanical resistance of our engines from repeated startups with warm oil to help reduce starter efforts. Improved battery design using enhanced flooded batteries (sealed) adds to OEM warranty life.

My understanding is as long as you're stopped and A/S/S shuts off the engine with full braking applied, restart occurs automatically no matter how long the stop time. Presuming an accident and vehicles line up and wait, braking should result in engine shutdown until the brake pedal is released. However, a longer stop time would presume a driver shifts into Park position and either let the engine idle or manually shut down. The same for a mile long train crossing; either hold brake pedal down to shut-off the engine, then release brakes for restarting or shift into Park position/idle rpm or shut down until the train passes. There are no time limits for A/S/S when it shuts off the engine as long as ignition remains On.
That’s definitely not true. Even with AC/heat off and only the radio playing the engine will come back on after a period of time. Many many long lights here in Vegas has shown me that

In my 2013 yr model (1st Gen) the start/stop function can also be controlled by brake pressure/modulation. If the brake is lightly pressed after the car comes to a complete stop, say at the lights, the engine won't cut out. I'm not sure if this is in the later models, I don't see why not. No need to press the disable button.
I definitely understand it. I’ve had it come on even though I thought I had the pedal lightly depressed enough. If you don’t want it to activate it can be annoying to have a surprise shut down.

thI just wish the engine would stay off longer. Sometimes at a long light, it will randomly restart before its time. If its going to turn off, it might as well stay off until its actually needed again...
This is a good point. I’m old enough to remember drive ins, and sometimes double features. If our cars could run on battery power with the radio on for a whole movie (with a short restart between movies for double features) then why can our modern cars with start/stop not stay off for a whole long stop light? With the radio only being on, no other draws on the system…what’s going on?
