Hi, my AC blower motor is making some noise:

Does anyone know how to disassemble the top part of the blower motor to maybe lube up the bearing? I cant find any videos or instructions how of to take the plastic top off.

Im wondering if it's a quick fix instead of buying a whole new replacement.

I wonder if you could use a fine mist of WD-40 at the cabin air filter (under the glove compartment) with the blower set to max. Take out the cabin filter and try to blow the finest mist through the system where the air intake is behind the filter? Honestly I don't know the map of how soon the blower would appear after the cabin air filter was removed. This might make the entire car smell of WD-40 and might make your inner windows a little oily. I don't think the WD-40 would confront anything that it might damage and you might get lucky. Since I'm largely ignorant of this subject you should be cautious to immediately act and perhaps some folks here might have more intelligent answers.

My middle daughter once put a giant Disneyland sucker on the dash of my Ford Escort without telling me. It was a brilliantly hot day at the Disneyland parking lot. To this day I remember the empty wrapper/stick sitting on top of the dash defroster vents when we returned. The entire sucker melted into the defrost system. "Dad, where did my Mickey Mouse sucker go?" Ah, good times.

good luck!

I've done the same, many times, using silicone spray. Use in a well ventilated area as this is flammable. Spray small amounts at a time. I've always had good results.

Glad others of sounder mind on the site. Hadn't thought of flammability issues. If he chooses this path having an appropriate extinguisher might also be a good idea.

The bearing looks worn enough that the cage is rubbing. I'd just replace with a new factory unit. Having gone through this with our BMW's for many decades, I've found attempting to lubricate the bearing never fully deals with the issue(wear, deflection, etc...). You might consider, while in there, wipe out the whole duct housing.

How difficult is it to get into the blower box?

I have not done one on the Crosstrek, yet. Having said that, I done way too many to mention on German, Italian, and Japanese make vehicles. While I was under the dash installing the wiring harness for the RF audio upgrade, it looks as if it is an interior pull instead of out of the front cowl area(think: BMW, etc..). You'll need to probably pull the glove box, unhook multiple wiring harnesses, and clips. Didn't look too terrible. Thankfully, the fan motor is cheap @ $108 online. Problem I see, is the plastic housing looks delicate. Lets face it, plastic never ages well. ; )

Thanks for the advice @77'911 @Raleighmclemore @CRAZYHAWK

Sounds not sure I want to risk my car smelling like wd40 haha. Question I found this 2015 impreza blower motor for $50, it looks identical to my 2013 xv/crosstrek but would it work? heres the link

Mine says 12V 30314 T1006184T A 872700-5630 which is a little different?

EDIT: Bought it so hopefully it works!
