I use my 2018 XV 2.0i-S here in the Philippines and need to purchase a DashCam for security purposes. I'm not looking for the most expensive one but I want it to have very good quality and still being bang-for-the-buck. Do you guys have any suggestions for me?

Thanks!

Hi Kevin, I have had a few dash cams over the past 15 years. This is the one I purchased for my Crosstrek last September.
So far it has worked very well.

I also purchased this mount for the rear view mirror. It also works very well.

Thanks!

And with the rear mirror mount, you wouldn't have issues with the front-facing cameras, right?

Are rear-facing DashCams also necessary?

No issues with eyesight
Some people here have rear ones. I haven’t bothered with a rear camera myself.

We got these for our cars a couple of years ago: https://www.amazon.com/X6D-Stealth-Full-HD-170°Wide-G-Sensor/dp/B01L4911PS

We've since upgraded to a full HD Blacksys on the Crosstrek (to get HD rear) but the iTrue is still a great cam for the price. When we had it on the Crosstrek it was to the right of the Eyesight bezel to avoid interfering with Eyesight. The Blacksys is much smaller and fits behind the mirror. Hope this helps...

I found a good deal ($50) on this basic Aukey 1080p dashcam and installed it the same month I purchased the Crosstrek in Aug of last year. I've periodically taken out the memory card and checked the footage. And, it's pretty good.....nice wide angle shots and good PQ in day and night. I placed it right behind the rear-view mirror. I can't see the tiny LCD screen from my normal driving position. But, I wanted it out of the way and hidden from view.

I'm wondering if there is any appreciable difference in a 1080P @ 60 FPS vs. 1440P @ 30 FPS for a dash cam. Also, if there is an appreciable difference your monitor would need to be 1440P compliant. Add to that, the quality/ability of the dash cam to operate at low light levels.

I would have thought the higher resolution would help with something important like capturing a license plate but for dash cam video I don't see any advantage of 60 FPS vs 30. On a 1080p monitor you won't see the full 1440p resolution but the player should work and just scale it. However, you could extract frames with a video editor and view them at the full resolution to read a license plate, for example.

I am absolutely furious with our Blacksys. I bought a new SD card before the trip (the highest rated one, according to their manual: 128Gb Sandisk Ultra A1…)

Total fail!

The red record light was on and steady throughout the trip but NOTHING was recorded. Totally sucks! This product is not fit for purpose...
