I wonder how STI wheels will look on the XV, would be nice just as wheels to drive around the city in.

 

Thank you, Doug, guys. I will speak to the dealer and see what he has to say. The price for the rims is good actually, about the same as everywhere else which is roughly 200 US dollars per wheel. Those should look good an on orange Crosstrek I think.

Konigs are good. I use to have runaways on my Mazda rx8 and they did well. Konigs are soft metal though. They would get gouged from rocks and scratched all the time. If you use your xv off road I wouldn't recommend konigs. For only on road use they're great.

Those look good. The problem I think is the spokes are open and we don't have nice looking brakes. Small rotors and small calipers in the rear. Maybe some bronze mesh wheels would look good.

I have a bronze set of rota torques (17x7) with nokian Hakkapeliitta 225/45/17 for my wrx. We are getting some snow in next few days so they are going on the wrx.

But, just for giggles I wanted to see how they would look on the XV. 2 things I noticed....

1..... The color works awesome with the tangerine....
2..... HOLY WHEEL GAP BATMAN !!!!!!! Lol

Oem tires are only 225/55's but damn what a difference .

 

 

Are those red caps something you can buy or did you paint them that looks great IMO

This isn't my Crosstrek, but I saw it today in the parking lot at Timberline Ski Resort in Oregon. Looked pretty cool, in a utility kind of way (assume they were snow tires). Couldn't tell exactly, but they looked like 17's.

I'm curious, is it possible to put on wider tires on the stock 17s just to give it a little more rugged/sporty look?
225/15/17 are stocks how wide could I go?

 

Probably could but I don't think it will give you the look ur after. Really would want a wider wheel, with a properly fitted tire.

 

Not my area of expertise, but i think you might run into problems with running a much wider tire since the side wall is so short. Maybe if you dropped to the 16" wheel you could put something wider. I don't think that you would gain a whole lot from the small width increase you could get.

I see those FJ cruisers around running what appears to be plain stock rims and larger tires, I guess that's kind of the look I'd like

 

The issue is going to be clearance. I know there are some older threads about what the biggest tire you can stuff in the wheel well is. What I plan to do is eventually buy a set of 16 inch wheels with tires that are as close to the stock diameter as possible. This will give a taller side wall while avoiding the issues of clearance and spedo inaccuracy. The down side is I really like the stock wheel, I just wish they had made it in a 16 instead.

I did speak to a rep from TireRack and he told me I could go as wide as 255, which was a surprise, yet he wouldn't say if I could go up to a 60r

Colleagues at work told me I could probably go as high as 65r but no wider than a 245 so lots of conflicting answers is making this even more confusing. I did find some Toyo Open Country 235/60r/17 which could work I guess, but for now I'll wait around

 

With such a new vehicle style it is going to take people doing trial and error to find out what can and can't be done. Scuby in another thread posted a picture of some larger tires on his, so people are trying things.
