There's the $ impact on future resale to consider. If you expect to sell the car before it reaches old age, unrepaired damage can reduce the selling price more than the cost of the repair.

This should be covered by insurance even though self-inflicted.

If you're looking for lowest cost repair and you don't have insurance, glue. A high quality super glue (cyano acrylate) is probably the correct choice, but do a test in a hidden spot. Don't use grocery store glue. Another option is a 2-part epoxy. The epoxy is likely to show a bit more than the super glue but either one should be strong enough.
