What is this box under the driver side seat?

Is this for the power seat or something? Went to look at the available space for an amp/sub and found this right in the way of using the space for anything...

That's the underseat airbag. It deploys in the event of an impact to the underside of the car.

Yeah but the passenger side was where the under seat powered sub is/was going to go... now this box throws off my whole plan.

You might want to read the "Cautions" on page 1-50 of your owners manual before placing/mounting anything under the passenger seat.

Of course dwasifar was just joking. That is actually the driver's ejection seat mechanism for when the Subie detects an imminent serious collision. It gets you out of harm's way fast, very fast. They're still working on developing the chute to let you down easy though, so as tempting as it may be ... don't try it out just yet.
