Hey Folks --
Been lurking for a couple days, checking things out. I put down my deposit on a Tangerine XV about a month ago. Delivery is expected Dec. 17. Christmas will be here a couple weeks early this year.
This will be my first Subaru and the Crosstrek is exactly what I was looking for in a practical commuter that also fits my lifestyle. I'm making the jump from a Corvette Grand Sport that was an awesome car, but with fuel and peripheral costs that made it wildly impractical. Not to mention that I couldn't take it to my favorite hiking spots.
I had been looking for a small SUV-type vehicle for quite awhile and we recently bought a Honda CR-V for my wife. I was leaning toward a more functional off-roader for myself and was considering a Jeep Wrangler, but they get worse MPG than my Corvette, so I couldn't talk myself into pulling the trigger. None of the other "crossover" types out there really blew my skirt up as I was looking for something on the small side as my adventures into the outdoors tend to be solo missions, and I wanted something more compact with good MPG for commuting duty. I actually liked the look of the Nissan Juke, but wasn't crazy about the reviews it was getting. I was getting discouraged and reluctantly starting to lean toward the Subaru Outback when I stumbled on the Crosstrek.
I loved the looks and the reviews it was getting, but was a little concerned about it being "down on power." I test drove the manual and hated it. It may have been the direct comparison to my six-speed manual Corvette, and I probably would have gotten used to it, but my test drive was unimpressive and I immediately asked for another go in the CVT version. Much better. Not nearly as much go as in my sports car (of course), but sufficient to merge on the highway, which is probably the most I'll ask of it in routine driving.
Very excited about this car and I'll be checking in here to see how the rest of you use and abuse your own Crosstreks.
I'm thinking of her calling her "the pumpkin."
More on Dec. 17!
Cheers.
